It's hard to answer those questions. It depends on who all comes out
to tryouts. If you want to make the A team, try to play ultimate over
the summer. We are setting up a club team. Go out for that. It will
help you the most. If you can't find any good ultimate to play, stay
in good shape. Ultimate is very demanding sport and if you are in
good shape it will help a lot.

We get at least 4-8 new people each day and it shouldnt be up to me
and john telling people each week that more people usually play when
everyone is just being bitches about not coming....

its really not fun when you have to play 3-3 or 4-4 because people
would rather sit inside and play call of duty all day instead of
playing ultimate for at least an hour.

furthermore, start coming to pick up and help out a little!

nitro and tilley both said good things. except, I am not a weak bitch.

as far as throwing, throw a lot. go to the beach and throw in the wind. don't
just work on distance. work on cutting through the wind. work on riding the
wind. work on high release, low release, outside in, inside out, thrown hard
with zip or soft with touch and all combinations of the above. step out as far
as you possibly can, then throw ten discs from that stretched out position. get
used to going that far for every throw. work on fakes. spend time each day just
faking. fakes are not just waves of the wrist. it is your entire body going to
throw except not throwing, eyes, legs and hips especially (look where you are
faking, step where you are faking, twist your hips towards where you are
faking). work on faking a backhand, then coming back for a flick quickly. Cut
down that time and the time to do the opposite and that will make you a lot
more dangerous. something to help with that is as you are faking your backhand
(before you snap your wrist), start ever so slightly shifting your weight back
towards the flick side - not enough of your weight for the defender to notice.
then as soon as you snap your backhand fake, some of your weight has already
been shifted so you can get to your flick a lot faster.

when you are playing in a game, work the mark side to side to get him off
balance. also, close the distance to the mark. step right at him. you will draw
free throws because he might foul you or you might be able to throw around him,
or if he backs up and doesn't allow those two options, he will not be able to
pressure your force side throw right away.

The most important muscles in ultimate are legs ( especially hammy's
if you have knee problems, Shoulders you should have a day dedicated
to them, and your core which includes your back. Legs are easily
explained why they are important. Shoulders because haveing strong
shoulders will protect from injury from laying out, plus help you
keep your form when you are fatigued and throwing back hands. And
your core is super important for prevention of injury and form.

strenghtening your legs and upper body will help some, but the most
improvement you are going to get is correcting errors in your from. I
think probably the best thing you can do is continue to throw. If you
are in the Orlando area and playing summer league you can talk to Matt
Robinson, Shane, Bill, etc and ask them for pointers.

I mean look at Bill. That's one weak bitch and he can throw the hell
out of the disc. :)

And for some of you hefty folks, lose some weight. That will help you
a lot. You'll be quicker and you legs won't take as much of a
pounding during the season. I had a friend that was around 200 lbs.
He went from grabbing the rim to being able to dunk after dropping 15
lbs. 10-15 lbs doesn't sound like much but it will help a great deal.

It doesn't matter if you are a handler. If you get in great shape
you'll be much more dangerous. You can also play a little defense
when there's a turn.

So here's the break down.

1. Throw, Throw, Throw (Ask throwers that are better than you for
pointers).
2. Get/Stay in shape. It will also help you survive the grueling
ultimate season. Bill and I are probably going to be doing some
workouts over the summer so stay tuned.

That's my take on the subject.

I was just wondering what were the best exercises to do to work on
strengthening your throws and working to best improve over the
break??? Any info would be nice, started air alert last week and now
looking for some upperbody work without messing up what i already have.

Hey guys,

I forgot to mention a few things in my last email:

Summer Orientations:
So, we need people to go to Summer orientations! This is where we
find a lot of new freshman and build our program for the upcoming
year. If you think these aren't important, you're wrong. Besides
being beneficial, they're fun! Nitro used them to hit on 18 year old
girls, but he also did some recruiting. It's very easy!
Hopefully, we will be able to have 2 lap tops every day for you guys.
One of them should be playing our videos, as people always stop and
start watching. The other should have our recruiting form open
(http://www.ultimateucf.com/recruiting). As most of you recall, we
used a paper and pen in the past and can't read anyones handwriting
for their email addresses. This should simplify that.

SO! I need 2 people to sign up for each of these dates. You should
arrive at the Pegasus Ballroom in Ultimate gear at 7:30pm and it will
be over by 9:00pm at the latest. The dates are:

May
Monday, May 19th
Thursday, May 22nd
Wednesday, May 28th

June
Monday, June 2nd
Wednesday, June 4th
Monday, June 9th
Wednesday, June 11th
Monday, June 16th
Thursday, June 19th
Wednesday, June 25th
Monday, June 30th

July
Thursday, July 10th
Thursday, July 17th
Monday, July 21st
Tuesday July 22nnd
Wednesday July 23rd

email me and let me know which dates you are available to recruit at!
I will be at everyone of these recruiting at the SC table and if you
have any questions just come bug me.

NEXT!
OFFICERS! We need to elect new club officers before our Budget
Hearing on June 11th. I would like the new officers to attend this
hearing considering that we are asking for a substancial increase in
funding ($4000). If you would like to be an officer for next year
please email myself (yankee@...) or Danny
(pres@...) and we'll give you some more information. We
can have anywhere from 4 to 6 officers and I really want a few guys
who are playing with HAVOC to be officers as well. This will make
travel a lot easier. Again, let me know ASAP if you're interested.

Hopefully I'll see you guys at pick-up, league, tournaments and all
that good stuff! Again, HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!

~Steve
