day 1, game 1, vicious cycle vs dogs of war. vicious was comprised of both men & women whom have particapted at frisbee's top level. tough game , in which, i believe dog's scored 2 points. you learn the most playing against the best.
game 2 vs ufuct b (who had 2 eleven year old players, one girl & one boy). dog's may have scored 5 or 6 in this game. wendy chan showed us that it's ok to call fouls , when your fouled, even when the other teams bench is howling at you. greg tener made some nice throws in this game, while new england steve made some strong cuts to the disc.
game 3, vs coral reefers. this game started out in the heaviest of rain, and strong winds. early score c.r. 3 dogs 2. at this point dogs had their full complement of players back from hiding under bleachers, as the rain began to subside. a few forced throws from the dogs caused c.r. lead to grow. we must be careful with our choices and exercise patience when in possesing of the disc. positive notes we the multiple give and go's between dan and phil, ted and alex, and jon gallagher and jaeson munroe. additionally, the FOUNDATION appears to have been laid for the UCF-WOMEN'S team as natalie and taylor worked the middle of the field well offensivey, squaring up for the oncoming pass. staci made some nice catches off her cleat tops, and wendy made numerous D's against c.r. women. i believe one point, if not more, each team's lineup had 4 women on the filed at once. keep up the good work, and continue to recruit other gals on campus, or whereever to filed a complete
women's team. final score c.r. 13- dog's 6/7?
day 2 game 1, somehow, and i believe i know how, (but not at this time) we opened up against vicious cycle again in the quarterfinals. to be the best, you must beat the best. we will get better quicker playing better more experienced competition, even though we'll have to take our lumps for awhile. dog's scored only 1 point in this game, but certainly that does not talk for how well we played and improved from game 1 on day 1. it was raining to begin the game, as well as, a fierce wind in one direction. dog's, as previous summaries have stated had 30+ plus passes completed into the wind and rain. phil, ted, greg alex, joe, taylor, staci all took turns working the middle of the zone (ie. popping) as we advanced the disc in a number of points, although we were unable to score, TREMENDOUS improvement under very difficult conditions.
game 2 vs. unknown team with nice uniforms. dog's took a 3-0 lead early, and you could feel the excitement and confidence growing in all the players. i heard comments from phil "we could win this one" and dan "this is harder than savage 7". dan's comment was mentioned maybe in day 1. our taller opponents rallied , but dog's took the half 7-6. unfortunately some players had to leave at this point, and this deflated the dog's for awhile, and the black shirted unknown team took the lead. unkown 11 dog's 8. ucf refused to give in, and closed to 12-10. the opponent closed out the game on the next point.
things learned.
support your teamates call, as taylor did, on the sideline out call by wendy against coral reefers. it always good to have your teamates support, when sometimes the dispute is against 4or 5 of the opponents.
take time out. when the count is high, and no one is open so a play can be designed as staci and ted did.
don't let your opponents intiminate you, as steve ran a coral reefer opponent into the ground, so that he had no breath left to yell at our woman when they are about to make a reception.
lastly playing in the mud is fun, even if you are wearing some of the same clothes from day 1 muyagi and bob.

p.s. shane good luck with running the tourney this weekend. try to exercise patience when your bound to answer the same question(s) multiple times from different people. no one wants to be yelled at (learn from my mistakes, when coordinating an event) for not listening, missing captains meeting, not reading details via emails etc. etc. etc.

A Challenge. This is Matt Johnson, totally "stoked" and whatnot
about frost breaker and the possibility of possibly coming up for
Tally on Saturday. I realized something at Frost Breaker and I'm
probably the most guilty person in the club of it, but we need to
practice like we play at tournaments. I saw people playing (except
maybe Greg, who I never see let down) at a new level. I know I'm new
to the club, but I think we should be playing that hard at every
practice, tuesday or thursday. I didn't understand tournament play
and how different it was, but we should be playing that hard every
practice so we don't get beat offensively and defensively. Let's take
advantage of how many people we have show up on Tuesdays and start
playing like we mean it, even if everyone doesn't know how. They will
learn more if we force them (and this goes for me to) to play at a
higher level.
I can't really say much, considering how bad I am, but I challenge
everyone to kick it up a notch at practice so that it's at tournament
level so at tournaments it's something more. If you guys don't like
how that sounds you can just ream me out on the forums or tell me to
go home tomorrow (providing I dont have labs) but if you like how it
sounds hold me accountable to it. Tell me when I'm doing something
wrong, show me where I can improve, and certainly yell at me when I'm
not giving it 100%. That's it.
