One of the teams coming to the tournament desperately needs a couple women (two cancelled at the 11th hour).    Chain-Chomp hails from Corning, Ithaca College & Penn State.  So if any women would like to come to Rochester to pick up with a fun team -- let me know ASAP!!!

This team will also be provided brownies (compliments of Rachel from the BlueREY team).   : )

Please help spread the word -- We could use 2 or 3 more women.

Thanks!!!

Hey all,

This is the last call for our BlueREY Invitational --

We have about three or four spots left.  (12 team max).  Although youth teams are welcome - none have materialized, except blueREY of course.  ALL of the other teams are ADULT teams. The teams appear to range from Rec  - Intermediate level with some advanced players... We expect this to be a highly spirited event.  Cheers - expected, spirit prizes awarded.

So if you are motivated to put together a team ($100 tournament fee = less than $10 per person!) or just want to pick up with an existing team that needs another body, EMAIL ME -- asap!!!   The m/f ratio will probably end up being 5/2 based on what I'm hearing...

If you're putting in a team I need to know asap!  And if you can't get a check to me by Thursday, August 7th, we can work something out -- I just need a firm commitment.  Schedule will be posted on Friday.   (8 teams = no byes, 9 - 12 teams -- there will be byes).

If anyone needs lodging we can probably help you out or point you to a cheap hotel.

Party is on Saturday night, August 9th at Boulder Coffee  ( http://bouldercoffeeco.com/index.php )
  • 100 Alexander Street (corner of S.Clinton)
  • 8PM - 1AM (close)
They have a great back patio!!!   Kitchen is open until 11pm (they have paninis, wraps, salads, desserts, beer, coffee, smoothies... etc...)

Let me know how you would like it inscribed.

West Coast Junior Ultimate Players/Coaches/Supporters,

Bitney College Prep High School's Air Traffic Control is pleased to announce our sixth annual tournament!

Grass Burn 2008 - Frisbee Frontier
May 17th-18th
Sierra College (Grass Valley) Rotary Fields
and
Nevada Union High School Fields
Grass Valley, CA

A few notes:

1) Qualifying Teams - All high school teams are welcome, but we're also inviting (at least) the local pickup team, since they have been so supportive of Juniors Ultimate here. Since they have won the last two Grass Burn tournaments (last year by a single point in the finals), we think it's time a high school team out there finally proved what an over the hill pack of geezers they really are. However, there have been questions raised about the appropriateness of including adult teams, as well as various high school reunion teams, alumni playing on high school teams, etc.

We've decided to continue allowing all of the above, and to make no such restrictions on who gets into quarters, "finals", etc. However, we will award the trophy to the high school team that finishes highest. To be considered a high school team, all players in every game must be active 2007-2008 high school (or middle school) students.

2) Mixed Format - Air Traffic Control feels very strongly that Juniors Ultimate is at its best in the mixed format, but we understand that some of you guys have a hard time talking to girls (it can be scary!) We'd love to further restrict the trophy to the highest finishing high school team that plays 5-2 throughout the tournament, but (as usual) this will necessarily depend on which teams are actually coming (and whether their male players have any female friends).

3) 12 Team Limit - Given the limited field space we can only accommodate a maximum of 12 teams - reserve your spot ASAP! If we have spots left, we may decide to invite additional adult teams.

4) Frisbee Frontier - We're going with a Western theme this year, so bring your Stetson and chaps.

5) Saturday Dinner/Party - We'll be providing field food and water during the tournament, as well as dinner and entertainment Saturday night. Our school has moved to the Nevada Union campus, so this year the party will be walking distance from the fields.

6) Showers - We could reserve the pool showers on Saturday, but it costs a lot of extra money and few teams have taken advantage of this resource in the past. There will be plenty of time between the end of Saturday pool play (3:00PM) and dinner (6:00PM) for you to go away and return freshly perfumed, so please let me know if your team wants us to reserve the pool showers (and would actually use them).

7) Accommodations - Our players are willing to provide crash zones for your team, but please don't wait until the last moment to ask for this.

8) (Almost) Clean & Funny Story Competition - Part of the entertainment at our Saturday Night party will be a joke telling competition. Each team will provide at least 2 representatives who will attempt to amuse the crowd with a joke that doesn't need to be completely clean (but should be completely funny). However, any use of objectionable language will result in the contestant getting the "gong" and being forcibly removed from the stage. Allusion and subtlety will rule the day!

9) Tune Tickets Return - We will once again be playing excellent music at the fields both Saturday and Sunday. Each team captain will receive a stack of Tune Tickets. When one of his/her players makes an awesome offensive or defensive play on the field, the captain will award them a Tune Ticket which is good for one track selection at Frisbee Central. Bring your CDs and/or iPods!!! However, all entries will be subject to the Lyric Police (we've received negative feedback from spectators in the past.)

If your team is planning on attending, then please...

10) Mail your $175 bid NOW, payable to:

Chris Schneider
10491 Boulder Street
Nevada City, CA 95959-2626

11) Reply to this email NOW, answering all of the following questions:

a) Primary contact name, phone number, and email address.

b) What is the likelihood of your team attending?
(hint: The first 12 to reply with 100% get reservations.)*

c) Approximately how many male vs. female players do you expect to bring?

d) Does your team need a floor to crash on?

e) Determine whether the vector field F(x,y) = (1 + 4x^3y^3)i + 3x^4y^2j is conservative, and justify your answer.

More details to follow...

Peace,

Coach Schmed
Air Traffic Control

* Unless they've bailed on us in the past, in which case they'll need to pony up before their spot is reserved.

I am happy to announce that Sunday, May 4th is the date for the 9th Annual Hotchkiss Invitational

This event features:

- Plush fields

- An emphasis on good spirit

- Luxurious turf-covered hockey rink accommodations for those teams that need to come in the night before

- Breakfast boxes (Bagels, Fruit, Granola Bars) and buffet lunch (PB&J, Fruit, and dessert)

- And a good mix of competitive play

Format:

10 team, single day format, with two pools. Top four teams guaranteed five games; all other teams guaranteed four games.

Note that preference is given to teams within the Connecticut Ultimate League.

Location:

The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, CT

This is in the Northwest corner of the state, 2 hours north of NYC, three hours west of Boston.

http://www.hotchkiss.org/VisitingHotchkiss/Directions.asp

-or-

Go to Google maps (http://maps.google.com/) and search for Hotchkiss Invitational Map.

Cost:

CTUL teams pay $45 - all other teams pay $75. Checks are due with the bid forms, and should be made out to “The Hotchkiss School.”

Special Note:

I hate to write this, but: since we have been burned by student-run teams in the past (2007 featured a no-show the day of the tournament, in addition to another team who canceled the day before), if a student-run team misses a *single* deadline, we will go to the waitlist immediately. Please only submit a bid if you can commit to the tournament.

I hope to see you all on the fields this spring!

Dave

Hello everyone,

Over the winter holidays I was thinking about how there should be an Ultimate Podcast..... so, I built one at www.theultiverse.com.

So far I've put up two episodes -- One with Tiina Booth and George Cooke where they discuss the UCPC and NUTC, and one with Chase Sparling-Beckley and DeAnna Ball where we cover their spirit awards and many other topics. Next up is Ulticritic, Frank, and MikeG to discuss the future of Ultimate and after that I have the Five Ultimate clan lined up to talk about what it's like to grow up Titcomb.

Check out the episodes and let me know what you think. I am brand new to Podcasting so I still have a lot to learn. Please let me know what I can do to improve.

I'm also interested in who you think I should interview.

Enjoy,

- Josh

Are you missing ultimate this winter?  Do you like learning more about ultimate, on and off the field?  Do you like hanging out with other ultimate players?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then sign up now for the Ultimate Coaches and Players Conference, to be held in a few short weeks in Boston.  You can find out more info here:  http://www.buda.org/ucpc/Home.html

Some other reasons to attend:

Players from the 2007 Club Champions (Ben Wiggins of Sockeye; Gwen Ambler of Fury) will be flying in from the West Coast and sharing their tournament-winning strategy.

Michael Baccarini, Junior Worlds Coach, will join us from Atlanta to show you exactly how to improve your speed and agility.

Greg Connelly, head observer for the UPA, will present a rules forum to help you understand (and explain to your teammates) all of the new changes in the 10th edition.

In addition, due to requests from attendees of last year's conference, we are providing more interactive panel discussions, including one on High School Ultimate.  This will be a forum for ultimate players around the region to discuss our sport and where they would like to see it headed.

VC Ultimate and Breakmark and Rob from Ultivillage will also be in attendance.  You can also check out the various ultimate programs that colleges have to offer.

So please pass the word and send this email to others who might be interested.  If you have any questions, drop me a line at tiinabooth@...

Lunch is included, and early registration deadline is Monday, January 7. You can still register after that, but the price goes up by $20.  So do it now and remember that spring is only a few short months away!

Hope to see many of you there!

I am trying to update my spring mailing list for high school ultimate Frisbee.

Please let me know if I should add a person to my list or if you would like your name removed from the list.

Thanks

Dan Raabe

P.S.  if you are associated with a Wisconsin high School team, I am trying to build a web site which will serve as a clearing house for information for Wisconsin teams (http://wiyouthultimate.googlepages.com/)  Let me know about your teams information and I will add it to the web site.

Just want to let interested campers know that the following sessions have
fewer than 10 spots left in them:

Session B July 14-19
Session D July 28-Aug 2

Both of these session have over 90 campers, and we are capping it at 100.

Session C which runs from July 21-26 still has about 30 spots left.

Please pass this on to anyone you know who is thinking about NUTC this
summer. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!
