The United Hockey League announced the results of its expansion draft for the three new teams joining the league for 2004-05, and the Fort Wayne Komets lost three players from last season's team.

The Mechanics also selected Dan Price in the fifth round. Price had 23 goals and 30 assists in 68 games last season. The unnamed Kansas City franchise selected Michel Massie in the eighth round. Massie had 22 goals and 29 assists in 55 games for Fort Wayne last season.
The Danbury Trashers did not select any Komets. Danbury traded its first-round selection in the draft to Port Huron for left wing and former Komet Brent Gretzky. The Trashers also traded their second-round pick to Flint for left wing Jim Duhart.
Kansas City also made a deal, trading its first and second selections to the Richmond RiverDogs for goaltender Maxime Gingras.
