The Quad-City Mallards will have a new division rival when the United Hockey League drops the puck on the 2004-05 season.
The league board of governors announced that Kansas City, Mo., has been awarded a franchise, the league’s 14th.
The new team is owned by Chillicothe, Mo., resident Stephen Franke and will play at Kemper Arena. Franke also is a majority owner of the Fort Wayne Komets.
The Danbury Trashers and the Motor City Mechanics join the Kansas City team as expansion teams added to the league for the upcoming season.
