Moline, IL - Defenseman Freddy Jobin, a key member of Quad City's
2001 Colonial Cup championship team and a second-team United Hockey
League All-Star in 2001-02, has re-signed with the Mallards for the
2003-04 season. Mallards President/General Manager Howard Cornfield
made the announcement today.
Though Jobin (pronounced "zho-BAN") is rehabilitating a late-season
injury for the second straight summer, he is expected to be
completely healthy for the upcoming season, which begins Oct. 24.
"I'm looking forward to starting training camp without the red
jersey," said Jobin. Players who are not to be hit in practice wear a
red jersey.
Limited to just 43 regular season games last season, Jobin totaled 16
points on five goals and 11 assists in 2002-03, while serving as an
alternate captain. He made his season debut on Oct. 25, after
beginning the season on injured reserve, and scored two goals with an
assist in a 7-2 win at Flint. But four stints on the injured reserve
list followed, including one for a season-ending injury in late March
that forced him to miss the playoffs.
It was the second straight disappointing end to a season for Jobin,
who tied a then-franchise record by playing all 74 regular season
games in 2001-02. He was named a second-team UHL All-Star after
posting career highs of 16 goals, 33 assists, and 49 points, and
finishing fifth in the league with a +33 plus/minus rating. But he
was hit by injuries during the playoffs and missed seven of 12 post-
season contests.
Now entering his sixth pro season and his fourth with the Mallards,
the 6-foot-1, 215-pound, 26-year-old native of Montreal is seventh
among defensemen in franchise history in games played, but ranks in
the top five in goals, assists, points, penalty minutes, power play
goals, shorthanded goals, and shots on goal. He compiled an
outstanding +13 plus/minus rating in 12 playoff games in 2001 as the
Mallards won the Colonial Cup championship.
The signing of Jobin means eight players are under contract for the
upcoming season, including fellow defensemen Andy Fermoyle, Terry
Hollinger, Adam Kragthorpe, and Tom Menicci, goaltender Jeff
Reynaert, and forwards Bob Crummer and Drew Otten.
The Mallards will open the home portion of their 2003-04 schedule on
Saturday, Nov. 8, at The MARK of the Quad Cities, when they host the
Flint Generals.
Season tickets, including all 38 regular season home games and all
playoff games at no additional charge, are available now through the
Mallards office. Extended payment plans make season tickets more
affordable now than ever before!
Season ticket holders are entered in a major prize drawing, including
free Lasik surgery from Virdi Eye Clinic. Those who have paid in full
will receive the limited edition Legends Bobblehead Series, including

Paul MacLean.
