Power Play Quarterback Led Mallards in Assist and Shots
Moline, IL - Defenseman Tom Menicci, a first team United Hockey
League All-Star last season, has re-signed with the Quad City
Mallards for 2003-2004. Team President/General Manager Howard
Cornfield made the announcement today.
Menicci (pronounced "men-NEE-see") led the Mallards with 39 assists
and 233 shots on goal in 2002-03 and scored a career-high 17 goals.
Used regularly when Quad City had a man advantage on the ice, Menicci
led the team's defensemen with eight power play goals, giving him 50
for his career. He topped all Mallards blueliners in goals, assists,
and points, and set a franchise record by playing in 75 of the 76
regular season games. He finished in the top five among all UHL
defensemen in goals, assists, points, power play goals, and shots on
goal.
Menicci was one of the most valuable Mallards in the playoffs. He
scored the game-winning goal in double overtime in Game 2 of the 2003
Colonial Cup Championship Series, Quad City's only win of the series.
He led the Mallards with a +11 post-season plus/minus rating -
ranking second in the UHL - and tied for second on the team with 11
points, on four goals and seven assists. Those 11 points led all
league defensemen in playoff scoring.
For the 32-year-old native of Westford, Mass., the 2003-04 campaign
will be his tenth pro season, his second with the Mallards, and his
third straight playing for Coach Paul Gillis. Both were with the
UHL's now-defunct New Haven Knights in 2001-02.
Menicci is the seventh player signed by the Mallards for the upcoming
season, joining fellow defensemen Andy Fermoyle, Terry Hollinger, and
Adam Kragthorpe, goaltender Jeff Reynaert, and forwards Bob Crummer
and Drew Otten.
The Mallards will open the home portion of their 2003-04 schedule on
Saturday, Nov. 8, at The MARK of the Quad Cities, when they host the
Flint Generals.
Season tickets, including all 38 regular season home games and all
playoff games at no additional charge, are available now through the
Mallards office. Extended payment plans make season tickets more
