The United Hockey League has realigned into two five-team conferences
for the 2002-03 season. More news is expected from the league this
week including the announcement today of players who were selected in
a dispersal draft at UHL meetings last weekend.
So far, no information from the league itself has come out of those
meetings.
UHL realignment puts Elmira in a conference with Adirondack, of Glens
Falls; Canton, Ohio; Flint, Mich.; and Fort Wayne, Ind.
Elmira, which won the East this past season, and Adirondack are the
only survivors from that conference. Flint and Fort Wayne have moved
over from the West, and Canton is an expansion team.
Reports out of Canton have said that team will not operate there this
year, and a source at the city's newspaper, the Repository, said
Monday nothing has changed. But that apparently isn't stopping the
UHL from going ahead with its plans.
The Western Conference is left with Muskegon, Quad City, Kalamazoo,
Missouri and Rockford.
Eight of the 10 teams will qualify for the playoffs and the playoff
format will remain essentially the same.
