Well, for all the "admiration" I had for Asheville following game 1 on Friday, I lost it on Saturday night's game 2. The Mallards jumped out 2-0, and the Smoke lost all sense of discipline and composure. When it was all said and done, over 100 minutes of penalties on Asheville alone and almost half their roster in the locker room with misconducts, the Mallards cruised, 5-1. I'm just wondering what Asheville coach Pat Bingham says to his guys now. Does he condone this kind of play? It's hard to score when you are ALWAYS short-handed (and usually deservedly so). The Mallards gave the Smoke just enough rope to hang themselves. For all the hope I had that this series might go six or seven, now I'm not so sure. Unless Asheville learns to show some control of their dirty play, they may well get swept. I noticed many UHL officials at the game Saturday night, and they were busy taking notes. George Harrison (the referee) was also in the stands. I'm sure he was glad to be up there, and not down on the ice playing WWF ref.
