This letter took a harsh turn right away. Hello, Blu.
As a fundraiser proposed by the genius Hollister, we will be making a
trip to The Price is Right in hopes that we will win something which we
can auction off for team funds. We have called the show to see when some
available dates are, and as some of you may know, if we have a group of
20, one of us is guaranteed to be called onto contestant's row. It's a
whole day commitment - usually from 10-5 or so, so please respond asap as
to which of these dates you WILL be able to go to (by #) and if you are
interested in going. Whichever has the most replies will be the date
chosen and I need your replies by the end of the week (and fyi - Sunday
is a part of NEXT week), so that I can call and reserve our spot in time.
THE DATES:

1 Tue 3/2
2 Thu 3/4

cake and plenty of alcohol so come partake in the festivities if you
aren't busy. I want to try and keep this shin dig early so come over
around 9 if you want to watch the oc or whenever afterwards. Hope to
see some smiling faces- I hope everyone is excited for SB!!!

Hey BLU!!!
In preparation for the dance-off this weekend, we will be having a short
practice after ultimate on Friday. It should only last an hour (5-6)
and EVERYONE who wants to participate in the dance-off needs to be
there. The moves are super easy to learn and some of the most amazing I
have ever seen (Gizmo, Jammer, Nokie, and I spent FOUR hours making
it!!) - however, because of the formations that we are moving in and out
of, we need those who learn the dance on Friday to be committed to
perform on Saturday. The practice is more to arrange how everyone will
fit together, and everyone can perfect their moves over the night in
Santa Barbara.
Bottom line:
We want everyone from both teams to be a part of the dance so stay an
extra hour to learn the awesome moves!!!
Mucho bLUV and bluEXCITEMENT,
Fresh
PS - yeah I know that bluexcitement doesn't work but still...
PPS - if you can't come for some reason on Friday and still want to
dance - let me know
hi girls,
has anyone seen the whiteboard and dry erase markers? it has not been
seen since fall quarter. any report on its whereabouts would be
greatly appreciated.
thanks,
jessie
hey guys, so we're going to Santa Barbara this weekend, I am sooo
excited. So I'm having just the girls A team stay at my house (sad I
know) but of course we all want to all hang out, so we're going to have
a big BBQ at my hosue for dinner on Sat night. We'll have hamburgers, a
ping pong table, jacuzzi (I believe we fit 18 in it last year...got to
break that record...) and an ice cold pool if anyone wants to ice their
muscles....haha. So yeah, I hope to see EVERYONE from both girls teams
and the guys A team (and whatever B teamers come up to cheer you on).
Don't bring any random people please, that would be too mayn to handle.
yeah first trounament!!!

Workout for Quickness and Agility – lower impact
Warmup:
Jog 2 laps
Dynamic stretching
Run up 1 set of stairs
4 x 30m accelerators, 2 x 30m bounding
(bionic/straight-leg running)
Sprints:
10 x 30m
Focus on accelerating as fast as possible (100%), and
accelerating all the way through to the end: quick
legs. Rest for 2 minutes in between. Training
explosiveness works best when you are rested. 4 start
facing forward, 3 start facing right (turn and
sprint), 3 start facing left. When you are facing
forward do falling starts: lean forward with feet
together until you are just about to fall over, then
start sprinting so you don’t.
Plyos:
Do any jumping or hopping plyos explosively.
1 x 30s Running balance (each leg)
Stand on one leg on your toes in a position that
looks like someone too a picture of you at your top
speed. Hold for 30s.
2 x 15 diagonal lunges (each side)
Just like regular lunges, except you step out at a
45-degree angle instead of straight forward. Don’t
let your knee go in front of your toes (on the forward
foot).
2 x 15 side lunges (each side)
This is similar to double-double point block but
slower, and you don’t shuffle. Keep your butt/weight
back so that your knee doesn’t go in front of your
toe. Pause down low on each side. Do 15 back and
forth, then rest and do another set.
2 x 10 side to side hops (each foot) a.k.a. skaters
Stand with feet together. Push off one foot and
jump/explode laterally. Land on the other foot and
jump back to the original foot. Rest for 2 minutes
between sets.
2 x 15 Twisting two-foot hops
Hold your arms out in front of you. Jump and turn
your hips 45 degrees to the right. Then jump and turn
them 45 degrees to the left (so they travel 90
degrees). Face forward the whole time. There and
back counts as 1. Rest for 2 minutes between sets.
Cooldown:
Jog 2 laps and stretch

Subject: sb invite shenanigans
ok ladies, here's the deal. sb invite is a few weeks away and it's time
to ramp things up for the
spring. the berkeley pie queens would like to up the stakes for the
first tournament of the
semester. we've discussed the events with a representative from each
team, and have settled on
the following format:
(there is also a little bit of hype, so let the crap talking begin!)
1. asian footrace- 3 asians (hapas ok), length of the field, relay style
alison might be the fastest asian ultimate player on the west coast, so i
think the skirts have
the advantage here. however, rafa and zip will hold things down for LA,
and you can't count
nerissa out for the pleiades. berkeley returns natwu from a semester of
training in ecuador and
has two other speedsters in key and darragh, so we will look to challenge.
2. non-asian speedwalking- 2 non-asians, length of the field, relay style
stretch and clyde have made some big claims about their abilities and
from what i've seen, live up
to their hype. berkeley brings experienced speedwalker beth boylan to
the races and has several
freshmen vying for the #2 spot. the other teams are a big question mark,
but lindsey and sarahp
from davis will give other teams a walk for their money. andrea and
katie from the skirts will
use their roommate connection to gain time on the handoff... but will it
be enough?
3. boatracing- 7 on the line, beverage to be negotiated
sb has the clear advantage but berkeley brings years of experience to the
table and will be
anchored by co-captain scoops and veteran amanda leahy, fresh from a
semester abroad. gully from
BLU has been known to out-chug all ultimate players in LA, including boys
from smaug, but does BLU
have 6 other chuggers to back her up?
4. team danceoff- choreographed dance 4-5 minutes, with 75% of your team
involved
(ucla, we expect to see 75% of your A team on the dance floor + as many B
teamers as are ready to
throw down. you can bet the tarts will be in on the action, so don't
disappoint us)
davis brings valuable experience from sean ryan and will be led by
chuckie, who learned a lot
dancing with berkeley at natties last year. berkeley is the frontrunner,
having competed against
challengers texas melee and colorado kali last year. they benefit from
the coaching of tracy
tietge and julie bruiser and return a strong core to the dance floor.
not much is known about the
skirts or BLU at this time, i have faith that both of them will rise to
the occasion, in their
first danceoffs ever.
claire and the skirts are working on a venue for these events... keep
saturday night free because
this should be a good time.
questions? totally confused by this email? talk to your teammates
because someone on your team
agreed to participate in this event. (davis, you can blame freshie.)
sweet. see y'all in a few weeks. in the mean time, chug those beers and
work on those dance
moves because this spring is going to be awesome!
michelle
berkeley pie queens
p.s. it is probably a good idea to notify your teammates about this
event, so that lameness does
not ensue saturday night. i tried to find a responsible person on each
team, but do what you
gotta do to make sure your team's prepared. game on, ladies.
Gizmo and I started thinking
about choreographing a dance for the challenge, and then realized that there
were probably some others out there who had some good ideas. So, let's
arrange a meeting to choreograph and talk about music choices for those who want
to join in.
Here's what we have thought
of incorporating so far:
Disney (maybe open with
Circle of Life?) Country (a little line dancing) Enya (some interpretative goes
a long way)
We also have thought of some
main points: costume changes throughout, a choreographed disc routine, many
formation changes, etc. We want to keep it funny but also good - not just
thrown together. It could be problematic to have "too many cooks in
the kitchen," but please reply with any ideas you have, and if you really
want to help out, reply so we can try to arrange a meeting that works for all
of us. For those of you who want to be a part of the dance, we will send
out an email after we create the genius choreography that is sure to be the
product of this email.
Hi Ladies... here is the best I could do to fit everyone's busy schedules together. Attached is the same copy of lifting routines from last quarter & contact info. If there is a mistake or a problem with anything let me know and I'll see if I can find something better. And I always like feedback. Enjoy!

Hey Everyone,
Two quick things:
1) If you know any women who can play winter league, Anderson has a
team that needs women. Really, no prior experience is necessary. If
you're interested, or know anyone that is, e-mail me at
elin4747@...
2) Anderson has ultimate practices on the IM fields on Fridays from 12-
2pm. If anyone is interested in just coming out and playing with us,
we don't usually get too many numbers. Also, please forward this part
to the boys side if possible.
Thanks,
Ellen
Hey, so I'll be matching up the people's best times for lifting. I
just wanted to send out a last message reminding anyone who may have
forgotten. I'll have it out by tomorrow night.

Hi Everyone.
Now that we have field space for the clinic we need to
start publicizing. So email me if you are willing and
able to make a flyer for the clinic. I will send you
all the relevant information. By the way thanks to all
those who have volunteered to help out. We could still
use some more help.

Hi Ladies!
Welcome back to school and happy new year. So just like last quarter
I'd like to set up lifting buddies. And just like last quarter,
lifting is still good for you. It'll increase your metabolism,
decrease likelihood of injury, make you stronger, make you healthier,
and a better ultimate player.
If you have any feedback from last quarter or any good ideas go ahead
and email them to me. I'm planning on setting up times for people 2x a
week, if you want more let me know. Otherwise please email me the
following BY THIS SUNDAY JANUARY 15.

ps. who is juiced for this quarter?
Hi Everyone.
We will be hosting a beginner/intermediate women's
clinic on Saturday Feb 4th pending the availability of
field space. I need to know how many people would be
able to assist with the clinic. The time commitment
would be 1-5 pm with a couple of people needed to help
set up before hand and clean up afterward. This clinic
will be a fundraiser to support our team and as you
all know to maintain our current priority level with
club sports we have to fundraise. Anyways let me know
if you are available.

Hello BLU and Midas, Some of you may not know that
next weekend (January 14-15) is a huge coed beach
tournament in Santa Monica called Leiout ... but some
of you may not know that. My friend Brian Calle is
the tournament director and he told me that several
teams need more women. The format is 5 on 5 with 3men
and 2 women. It's a very large tournament and teams
are coming from all around the US. Don't be worried
about your skill level, since the range of the teams
in terms of skills is huge ... plus everyone is bad on
the beach. There will be tons of UCLA people there,
and who can be against a day at the beach combined
with ultimate anyway. If you're interested in playing
in this superfun tournament either send an email to
briancalle@..., or let me know, or just show up
on the day of the tournament. You can check it out at
www.leiout.com. -Alex
