Hey guys, so we've only got 2 more tournaments and about 4 more weeks of ultimate left this quarter. To get the most out of the rest of the quarter I'd like to mention 3 main areas everyone can focus on (particularly if you are interested in playing on the A team): athleticism, skill, and attitude/intensity
Athleticism:
Many of returning players are weightlifting to improve strength, balance, and explosiveness. They will be happy to teach you these exercises (ask Bossa or Atari). Focus intently on the plyos we do at practice and it will also improveme your athleticism.
Skill:
Attending as many practices as possible, and truly focusing on each drill will help improve your ultimate skills. Do some focused throwing every day. Ask a vet to throw with you. In addition, practicing fakes (perhaps in front of a mirror) and switching grips quickly from forehand to backhand (and back) can easily be done for a minute or two everyday in the privacy of your own room. This will also improve your throws and overall comfort with the disc. If you do not currently have a disc then you should buy or borrow one.
Attitude/Intensity:
Sprint down full speed on every pull in every scrimmage. Run full speed on your cuts in every drill. Put as much intensity into marking and defense in every drill as you did during the tournament.
Keep up the hard work. See you at practice. -Alex
