Hello All,

What a nice surprise on the last Friday Ride.

Francesca, Paula and Lynne prepared a healthy snack for all the riders.

During our stop at the traffic light in Academic City they served fresh pineapple and water melon to all.

They wanted to show all the riders what we experienced during our trip to Thailand.

Please have a look at http://www.thaisnews.com/news_detail.php?newsid=194084

On behalf of all the riders -thank you very much,

This Friday we will have a Team from German TV on the ride so better shave your legs and wear your Dubai Roadsters Kit!

Maybe Hollywood is watching – you never know.

Please have a look at the attachment about some exciting events coming up in the next weeks.

Happy Cycling to all of you

Wolfi and Team

Wadi Biyh Run 2007

The date for the run is Friday 19th January 2007. This has moved from the date previously notified as in March it can be very hot in the afternoon when runners are finishing and it is difficult to arrange shade at the finish.

I did a reconnaissance drive through Wadi Biyh this weekend, 10th and 11th November, to check the requirements at the border post and the route.

Based on this reconnaissance talking to other people who have driven the route recently the current requirements apply to the different border posts :

* UAE border post in Wadi Biyh on RAK side - generally need to show a passport with a valid visa in (residence visa or visit visa ) . Border Post is closed during hours of darkness.

* Oman border post at the start to the climb up the hill no requirement to show any documentation

However another obstacle has been thrown up in that a fence been erected at the border of the UAE and Oman in Dibba ( Dibba is part UAE and part Oman ) . This is similar to Al Ain where the UAE authorities have tightened up on security & border controls. This fence cuts off the route to  the previous finish which used to end on the UAE side of Dibba . However there is no border post or gate at the road border of the UAE and Oman in Dibba and one is not stopped and there is no requirement to show any documentation when you drive from Oman - Dibba to UAE - Dibba at fence at the moment .  However this may change.

A large dam has been constructed across the wadi close to Dibba and the road has been diverted around this. The route will change slightly here because of this.

Based on the above we plan to go ahead with the run on the usual route starting at the RAK side at the entrance to Wadi Bih at  the usual start and following the waid to the top of the pass and then down to Dibba, although we need to find an alternative finish spot and consider the arrangements for food and drinks at the finish .

There is also the state of the road on the Dibba side to consider, if in the event of a heavy storm prior to the run the road is washed out . Also if rain is threatened on the day of the run in which case the run would go to the top of the mountain and back to RAK.

However the main imponderables are the requirements at the different border posts which we will have to monitor .

I will send out some further information shortly.

Best wishes

John Young

CAPE ARGUS 2007

If you have already registered or are planning to register for the Cape Argus Cycle Tour in Cape Town on March 11, 2007, please send me an email at the address below. Also, note that the registration has closede for local South African entries, but remains open for international cyclists.

The idea is to organize ourselves, get sponsor companies and negotiate with hotels and airlines to get some kind of beneficial group package deals.

This tour is an extremely well organized event in an extremely beautiful location drawing riders from all over the world.

Regards,

Some of you might be interested in knowing that TDA (Tour d'Afrique Ltd) , Canadian based company will run next year their first cycling Silk Road Race/Expedition from Istambul to Beijing , after successfully running 4 Cycling Tour D'Afrique Race/Expeditions from Cairo to Cape town and a couple of Cycling Expeditions Orient Express from Paris to Istanbul.

So , if anyone interested in joining either , part of the races/expeditions or full Tour of either Tours , please , have a look at the following websites .

Will be great to have more participants from this part of the world !

I personnally took part as sectional rider (not racing) to the last 3 Tours D'Afrique , and next year will go again for my missing Country of the Tour :

Ethiopia and intend (too early for a firm commitment) to join the Silk Road.

Have a great end of week end
