Re: Dubai Training

I would prefer to meet as one group and then split the groups at
later stages as required as long as the control is kept in the first
40 km. Mainly because A) The slow group riders benefit from sitting
on.(Tip- if your new don't take any wind, theres no shame in
avoiding turns at the front if your not fit enough yet!) B)It's more
social and not just an elite few in an earlier group. C)New riders
can get a lot of advice tips etc from more experienced riders.D)it's
a good change to ride in a big group. E) More serious and specific
training can be done on the Sunday/Tues rides.F)IT's more FUN!
I know that there is a few riders out there that like to rip it up
early but they should prove it 12km from the halfway water stop or
better still in the last 20km in the chain gang because thats when
it really counts for speed training.
Though a shorter distance, this is the basic format that pro teams
follow at base training camps (no water stop req. though, they have
a team car!)
As the days get cooler the rides for the training group will get
longer, by keeping to this format everyone will benefit.
Cheers
Pete.

Susan/Rick I agree that a tired cyclist out on their own in the exposed and hot conditions is a dangerous situation. The last few weeks have been particularly...
