Championship finale @ Halsey Valley, way out West. One more shameless whine about Tioga County! Well, Sheriff Sherwood didn't wait for his posse, he took no prisoners and brought home the prize. The only sub hour of the night as well.
The report from the riders was a nasty headwind out, and a fast ride back. Talk around the corral was that the course is a good one and just might replace the old one.
I'd like to thank all the volunteers that helped me out these last 2 seasons, Dawn for rounding up volunteers, and Lloyd for making this computer stuff look easy.
I'll see you out and about.
Paul
Letterman's top five:
Damn it! Grabbed the wrong sheet! Jeff, could you post the results? No bald jokes, please!
September THursdays are the Hill Climb series. Jeff has graciously accepted my plea run them. (38b can be the entire course, Jeff).
THANK YOU to the lap counter!
The FINAL points standings will be emailed in a day or two, awaiting for
some reviews for accuracy, etc.
Thank you all for making this another successful season for TVC. Your
participation helps grow this club and the sport. There were several new
faces this year. Let's hope they continue to compete and enjoy the
comradery of the club. Let's see if we can bring in more new members
next season...
The weather was nearly perfect, 75, sunny, low humidity and a slight
breeze. Where did this summer go?
34 riders showed up to finish up the season and settle any suspense.
Adam was off to college so that changed the dynamics a bit. He sure did
have a great season. Adam even raced in the Pro/1/2 at Thater this
weekend. He did well considering he raced Saturday...
After a slight delay because Kurt wanted to have his picture taken in a
pink jersey :) the racing commenced. The pace was slow a few laps, even
had time to check in at home to see what was for dinner. I think
somebody got stung by a bee because next thing I know a couple of riders
sprinted off, I thought this was Thater all over again! Then the fun
began. There was several attacks but nothing was sustained until the
later part of the 18 lap Shangri La Singer circuit. 6 riders slowly
pulled away with the peleton content to let then go and or not willing
or able to stay connected. Maybe we should use a cell phone next time to
connect up... Well, the sun was setting and so was the season. Harold
made an rush to connect with the lead group. Krisko and Van Kuren wanted
no part of the slackers in the group so they battled to the finish with
Krisko edging out Van Kuren with Sergey slightly behind. The avg MPH was
22.5 even with the slow start for 3-4 laps. The rest of the race was let
it rip with testosterone flying all over. After the dust settled here
was the finish:
A Racers
1. Krisko
2. Van Kuren
3. Sergey
4. Sherwood
5. Uhrlass
6. Graham
7. Peeling
8. Meier
9. Kumiega
10. Walker
Sprint 2
1. Sergey
2. Sherwood
B Racers
1. Elmy
2. O'Brien
3. Davis
4. Stahr
5. Campbell, he was riding with the A's for a short bit, time to step it
up
Same finish for both sprints
Women
1. Karla
2. Carrie
Same finish for both sprints
Well we are in need of at least two people to step up and fill the two open spots we have for next year. As always if you feel you want to do a position already filled by a returning officer, they can probably be convinced to give up the spot, or if not, you can run against them !! Ha !! I don't think I've ever seen that happen !
So we need someone to do Treasurer duty which involves, making some deposits and withdrawals from the bank account, writing some checks, and balancing the books. It really shouldn't;t take more than maybe an hour or two a month I would think, but our outgoing bean-counter Paul Speranza could enlighten you to what is actually involved there. Questions ?? Direct them to Paul at paul123@...
In addition we are in need of someone to manage the TTs during the season. Place the signs and sometimes a turnaround cone, run the computer and produce the start and finishing order. It's not that hard, pay no attention to the occasional snafu Paul or I had in the past, stuff will happen, but 95+% of the time, it all runs smooth. Of course that person needs to attend all the TTS (or at least most of them, I covered for paul one week this year while he slacked off at the lake), so hopefully a regular TT rider steps up for that one. Questions ?? Direct them to Paul at the TT this week or at pwp100@...
By being an officer you get free membership in the TVC and the satisfaction of knowing you helped the club continue on it's path to cycling supremacy.... or something like that !
So if you are interested, in ANY position, let me know and I'll get you on the ballot.
The date for the Annual Banquet is Monday 10/29/07 at the Cellar in Owego, further details regarding menu, the exact times ( I think it will be our normal 7:00 PM start with socializing from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM , but I am not positive), cost, etc. will be forthcoming from Karla.
Jackie , busy with children, work and school , has asked me to post the " official " posting for this years Hammondsport Hump .
Saturday 9-15-07 ...nice and early this year for nice and warm weather . Meet at the 17/17C Apalachin exit boat launch 8:00 AM leave promptly at 8:15 if you want to caravan . Otherwise , meet in Hammondsport 10:15 around the town square ...plan to ride by 10:45 .
This year we'll hit the better wineries first going ...UP ...to Bully Hill & Dr.Frank ...then ....DOWN ....to Hunt Country ! ( for those who may not want to do the first climb, Dawn has a great idea of driving up and beginning the ride from Bully Hill , catching a ride back to her car at the end of the day ) After Hunt Country you'll have the option of traveling the west side of Keuka ...flatter with lake front views . Or .... gradual climb... then around the east side of Keuka with more wineries on the way back. Lunch can be in PennYan for those choosing the west side ...or we can picnic at Hunt Country all together before splitting off.
Planning dinner at The Village Tavern after meeting back in town ...around 6:00 pm . We'll be needing a head count before hand to make reservations ...please RSVP if you'll be coming and staying for dinner.
Great idea for those not wanting to drive all the way back home after dinner .... George and I are staying overnight at the Days Inn in Bath ..if anyone else is looking for a place ...most are booked up by now.
Most of you have done this trip before but if you have any questions or need directions e-mail either Jackie or myself or call if you get desperate 785-0569
Cross your fingers for some really good weather !!
I heard the TV coverage of the Pro races was absolutely awesome. TW Cable doesn't extend up into the "boonies" where we live, did anyone record it? I'd love to borrow it sometime. I had a great time while officiating the pro races, but didn't get to see very much of the action!
Thanks to everyone who came out and braved the heatwave to cheer us on Saturday and helped out all weekend.
Congratulations to everyone who raced, we had TVC riders in almost every single event all weekend! Results of finishers are posted on bcstopdwi.com! # of starters is not listed, but I know the Pro Men's field was maxed out at 125 riders even though only 55 were given actual finish times, they had to pull groups off the course for a safe finish.
Championship Final Thursday! Sign-in until 5:45, riders start @ 6:00. I need 1 volunteer. I'll be doing the clock, just need someone to organize the start, write down numbers at the finish.
I just want to thank everyone who came out and pitched in at Thater, be it during setup, tear down, whenever. Whether you were there an hour or four days like a few of us were, it all adds up and without all those hands doing stuff this thing would never get done.
Some (of the better) photos from todays 40+ master race @thater.
TVC'ers - this msg is really directed at the guys from the mainline
team as you'll note that most of the photos are of those guys. I did
manage to capture some fellow TVC locals in there too with Mark, Dan
and Steve showing up in my lens from time to time.

This is Jim May's Secretary - I've got a rider from Albany that is a Cat 5 & wants to ride in the Masters 40+ - does anyone know if he qualifies? He doesn't want to drive down from Albany if he isn't going to be allowed to race - I can't get a hold of any of the officials - they're on their way here - if anyone knows the answer please email us!
It is my understanding (note that I am NOT an official nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night) that Masters category races are held indecent of category classifications and therefore a Cat5 racer can race in the 40+ event.
While I didn't find an explicit entry, this is from the current USCF rulebook-
1H. Mixing of Classes and Categories
1H1. Eligibility. No rider may race in a category other than that which is stated on his or her license. Masters may compete in any races for their age or younger, but not races exclusively for Under 23s or Juniors. Under 23 and Junior riders may compete in any races for their age or older, but not Masters races.
This clearly says to me that the Albany rider *CAN* race in the 40+ event, but again I'm not an official so please take my advice for what it's worth.

Next week is FINAL TVC RR of the season, at Singer at 6:30 for DOUBLE
POINTS, pizza and soda provided afterwards. Heck, will maybe throw in some
desert. Somebody said the brownies last time were tasty, I think somebody
put some hash in them :)
Attached is updated points sheet. Had to make some changes, to include Mike
Canestaro in results, he is TVC member. Please let me know if any
discrepancies. The top 3 A's are separated by only 10 points! Wow, that is
close...
Weather was a bit threatening but only a few drops fell, maybe it was from
the bike in front of me :) Cool at 60 degrees in August! Other than that was
a fine night to do a final spin up before the Thater races...
15 hearty cyclist showed up to battle, let's say battle Andy. 6 RUUD racers
gave Andy a challenge by attacking and counter attacking and more attacking.
Heck, he looked like he was in cruise control saving energy for the Thater.
Andy did a solo attack early on and had 500m lead. He kept looking over
shoulder to see if anybody was going to answer his move. The peleton seemed
content to let Andy ride solo hoping he would burn a lot of energy and tire.
Forget that, this is the end of August and you better have your racing legs
or your toast! Well, a veteran that Andy is, he did sit up and the peleton
finally caught on to his wheels. That is when the fun began. Throw in 2 drop
chains and a flat, the evening was not uneventful. As soon as the slackers
caught Andy there were several attacks. Andy answered the bell every time.
The final attack was by Jeff. Andy snagged his wheel and they both rode into
the sun set, well how about into the evening. Sure gets dark early when the
clouds are thick. Jeff said he could whip Andy in a Sprint! Oh, maybe I
misunderstood Jeff, he said Andy would spank Jeff in a sprint and sure
enough that is what happened. Good tune up for Andy! The rest battled it out
for the race shortened course due to construction. The mattress marker was
to close to finish!!! Here are the results:
A Racers
1. Van Kuren, piece of cake
2. Poulin, pleased as punch with 2nd
3. Gryus, let me pull this train
4. Woodruff, I want 2nd place
5. Peranich and Walker tied, where was the camera?
7. Morgan, I'm coming
8. Snow, could have snowed last nite
9. Danvers, AVK eats this up
10. Meier, wait for me! I will get new tires...
Sprint 1
1. AVK
2. Woodruff
3. ???
Sprint 2
1. Peranich
2. Snow
3. AVK
B Racers
1. Campbell, of course
2. O'Brien, I'll take that
3. Davis, don't start without me
Sprint 1 and 2
1. O'Brien
2. Campbell
3. Davis
No women tonite!!!
Jackie asked me to post a " keep this date open " for the up-coming Hammondsport Hump this year....Saturday Sept. 15th.... Earlier this year but maybe earlier means warmer ? As in previous years we'll meet at the boat ramp area off 17c to caravan or in Hammondsport itself . Thinking this year to get the better wineries first we'll head ...UP.... to BullyHill and Dr.Frank ...then ...DOWN ...to Hunt Country . This way people will have the option of heading back along the west side of the lake ( flatter ) or east side ( gradual climb in the beginning ) but more wineries on the way back.Everyone gets to do what-ever they feel like doing at this point ! Dinner , of course at The Village Tavern .
George and I ware thinking of staying at a local motel afterwards ..saves from driving back after a long day ...more fun too !! Prime season , so if anyone else has this idea ...get you reservations in soon.
Jackie will be posting the final times and specifics soon
I will be able to assist in some way in setting up. I need to find housing for two female or a husband/wife for Saturday night. Two of them are staying with me and I need another site. It is only for one night and it is a women's team that is coming in for Sunday. Get back to me ASAP if you can help. I reside in Hilcrest and it would be cool to find someone else close by so the team could be close together. We could also get together for a pasta party or something at my place. Hope to hear from someone out there. Have a great day.
Wayde

Hey everyone,
It's hard to believe but it's time for Chris Thater. We're looking for
anyone who can help out with setup on Thursday and Friday, with Friday
being the big day. Friday will consist of putting up any of the
remaining tents. roes and fencing, banners, and this year we are doing
the hay on Friday also. So the more people we can get that day the
faster things will go. If you can help out on Thursday also, or only on
Thursday, that too would be appreciated.
Also Sunday after the women's race is underway we'll start tearing down
and keep going till 7:00 PM or so. So anyone who can help out with
teardown, again your help is appreciated.
To all the members racing, good luck, and I'll see eveyone there.

Dan O'Brien can't wait to ride first, then volunteer. I'm set. Just looking for help for next week, I won't ride, so I only need one @ Halsey. No marshals are needed for the new champ course.
