Good Morning,

The Empire State Games Central Region Qualifier is this Sunday, June 3rd.
We are desperately seeking volunteers to help with the following duties:

Racer Registration / sign-in- 8am to 9am- for ESG race

Racer Registration / sign-in- 10am-11:30am- for TVC 4/5 race

Corner Marshalls / to flag and stop traffic for riders turning onto Laughlin rd for time trial- ~ 8:50am-9:45ish
(Joe Walker-volunteer)  Still need another!

Timers for time-trial - Just like we do on TT nights- ~8:50am - 10ish

FINISH LINE  / LAP COUNTER - During ESG race ~10am-11:15ish
We need people to keep track of riders #'s for each bell lap and at the finish.  Bring clipboard, paper and pen.

ESG Results:  Marsha & Margaret will calculate points results provided from finish line crew to determine ESG team.
The ESG points race is based on points earned for both TT & points race- various points are earned for each bell sprint lap (double points on the finish lap) and are calculated and combined with the time trial points to determine the team order.

4/5 Circuit Race- Finish line /  lap counter / Results- 11:30 - 1pm- ish

23 riders came out in some real summer weather. High 80's, it's a beautiful thing! 38 co-operated, as I believe Shelley mentioned that she had broken the record! Must have been the weather, can't be the equipment! Harold keeps on keeping on, he took top honors for the day.
Welcome back Charlsie, great to see you back, and Mom decided to run the course as well. Cool, very cool.
Welcome to Mike Davis, another MTBer to try his hand at the blacktop. Thanks to Leone Lessard, and Paul Speranza, for volunteering, and to Dick Litzel for the cone.

Hello,

Todd from CNY DIRT asked me to forward the following notice about this Saturday's work session at Highland Forest.  Highland is a GREAT place to mountain bike, and the trails stay in terrific shape thanks to the efforts of DIRT.   Come out and lend a hand!  The info is in the email below.

If you are not racing this Sunday head on over to Highland and join in with the DIRT riders for some great fun riding the trails.  This is the excerpt from the notice about the ride:

"Upcoming Sunday Ride
--------------------
What's that old saying? "Get while the gettin's good." With such a
dry Spring, Highland is incredibly fun to ride right now. Even on
Monday, after .3 inches of rain on Sunday night, it was almost
completely dry. Todd worked some black magic and no longer has a
prior engagement on Sunday, so he will be leading us over hill and
dale.

----------------------
Meeting Place and Time
----------------------
Meet at the old parking lot, ready to ride at 10:00."

Happy trails,
Margaret

Hi everyone,
This coming Saturday the 2nd there will be a CNYDIRT sponsored trail
work session at Highland Forest .
Mostly we will focus on some lite raking, pruning and branch removal.

Please consider this opportunity and come out to show your support!
Even an hour or two when combined as a group makes a huge impact.
If you know of someone that is not a member of CNYDIRT that might be
interested in helping please pass on the info.

I was thinking of trying something different this year. If you will
pair up on your own I could assign you a trail or trails to work on.
Then you could show up any time during the day that worked best for
you. Tools will be left at a pre determined location for you to pick
up and return.
If this helps you to attend then lets try it. Let me know.

The official time will be 9:00 am. in the old parking lot. I will
provide tools, drink and some food. You will want to bring gloves
and bug spray.
Some of this will be done from bikes and bob trailers. I need to
know who would be interested in pulling a trailer.

Onondaga County has made a huge effort to embrace our group and its
efforts more than ever before.
Sessions like these have made it possible for the trails as we know
them to exist in a stable environment for years to come.

Thanks gang,
Todd

If Adam keeps winning beer primes, he'll have enough beer to open his own bar by the time he's old enough to drink them!

21 riders showed up for the wide open rt 369 course.  One right turn and a few nice climbs is all the riders had facing them for the next 27 miles.  Inevitebly a break formed up the long climb of 79 past the candle factory which included Sergey, Kane, Farabaugh, Sherwood, Kapinas and Kumiega.  Kumiega's rear tire finally surended at the half way point reducing the group to 5.  Sergey put in a hard attack up Beldon Hill taking the KOM.  From there the group reformed and stayed intact until the finish where Farabaugh was able to take out the victory.  Had there been a beer prime for this win, I would have personally taken him to the Fireside Inn (crappy bar located near the finish) for a cold can of Genny.

This sunday is the ESG qualifier and the 4/5 race.

Next tuesday we are at Singer 6:30 pm.

The TVC circuit race in Binghamton this Sunday includes junior age groups
10-12, 13-14, and 15-18. They're all scheduled to race 10 laps/16 mi. I
asked Jeff Poulin if the younger kids could have a shorter race, as even at
nationals the 10-12's only race 15K. Jeff said he could do that.

My son Adam, who's 11, is thinking of going. There are few enough races for
the younger jrs., so I hope others will consider it too.

The race flyer is at

http://tiogavelo.com/docs/2007TVCCat4-5CircuitRace.pdf

10-12 yr. olds may race on any type of bike; entry on bikereg.com is only $5
for jrs., plus a one-day license if they don't have an annual license.

TVC sprints for the Belgian brew!  22 TVC members came to Syracuse for a weekend of great racing!  If you haven't done this race, give it a try next year, it's less than an hour away and lot's of fun and excellent training!
Well organized event with pace cars and wheel vans for each field and instantaneous and accurate results!  Great job to all OCC volunteers!
GREAT weather and a fun venues to watch the action during the TT and the Crit.  Many of us strained our vocal chords cheering everyone one as they passed the start/ finish areas!
Cat 5 Men report- TVC's newest converted mtn biker- Mike Grygus sprints for one of the beer primes and wins!  Later, on the last lap, Mike was an unfortunate victim of a crash and wound up having to get stitches. (See below) came out with a 19th overall GC for his first omnium race!  Congrats to George Elmy- 26th, Chuck Braman- 27th and Mike Guenther!
Cat 4 Women- Tami Lewis (Mission in Motion) also won a prime, this one was for free 1 hour massage!  Tami wound up 8th overall gc for her 1st omnium race!  Janie Cregan (M in M) - 10th overall, Carrie Peeling (M in M)- 15th overall and Karla Eisch- 22nd overall.  Great job, ladies!
Cat 4 Men- I believe our only Cat 4 man was Sergey Shteyn (Ruud Racing) who came in 8th in the Road Race!  Good Job!
Cat 3 Men- Our only entry in the Cat 3 field is our amazingly talented junior- Adam Farabaugh (Ruud Racing) who not only sprinted to WIN the Beer prime (of which he was awarded a tire due to his age :)   , but he also ended up placing 9th overall in GC out of 46 Cat 3 Men!  Great Job Adam!
Cat 1-2-3 Women- As if the Canadian's weren't enough of a challenge, we had two Australian champions join us on Saturday showing us what it takes to be a Pro!....5 Mission in Motion women - Shelley Reynolds came in 4th in the Road race for 6th overall gc, Sarah Krzysiak took 6th in the RR for 5th overall GC, Marsha Kapinus- sprinted and Won the Beer prime and placed 8th overall GC, Margaret Thompson- 11th overall gc and Chelsea Reynolds racing at Syracuse for the 1st time as a Cat 3 in 16th overall!
Masters 35+ Men- Our biggest field of TVC members as Dan Kane (Chen Point cycles) came in 4th in the crit with 5th overall, Andrew VanKuren  (BiKyle) won the field sprint for 2nd in the crit with 6th overall, Harold Peeling (Ruud Racing)- 10th overall gc, Steve Krisco- 3rd in crit & I believe also may have won a beer prime?, Todd Sherwood- 15th in the road race, and Pat Kapinus- 19th in the road race out of 34.
Masters 55+- Ed Burns took 5th in the crit for 7th overall in GC!
It was a lot of fun cheering on our friends, it was great to see many of you out there racing!

Complete results are on syracuseraceweekend.com, hope to see everyone at TVC Circuit race and ESG qualifier this Sunday!  Please let me know if you can volunteer or provide a volunteer so I can sign you up for free on bikereg.

Hello cyclists!

This is a reminder to everyone that the Central Region Qualifier for the Empire State Games Open Cycling Team will be held this Sunday, June 3.  The flier, with all the particulars regarding the qualifier, is attached to this email.  (It is also pasted to the bottom of this email for those of you on lists that do not allow attachments. Please excuse the poor formatting.)  You must live in one of the counties listed on the flier.  College students who are living in these counties for the summer are eligible to race for this region as well.

The Open Cycling Team is made up of ten men and three women.  Top finishers at the qualifiers will fill these spots.  We also need several alternates in both categories, as it is imperative that we compete with a full roster.  Even those who do not think that they qualified should remain after the racing to fill out paperwork for alternates.

Empire State Games is a four day event for Open Cycling, and the competitors must race in all four events.  The schedule is as follows:
Wednesday, July 25 -- arrive at campus, check in.
Thursday, July 26 -- 10 mile individual Time Trial
Friday, July 27 -- Road Race, approximately 80 miles for men and 50 miles for women.  I am not sure of exact distances this year.
Saturday, July 28 -- Points Race (Criterium with interim sprints)
Sunday, July 29 -- Team Time Trial

There is no entry fee to race in the qualifier.  However, anyone who races the qualifier is expected to commit to racing at Empire State Games if he/she qualifies.  The Empire State Games will be held this year in Westchester County.  There is also no fee to race at Games, and we will be housed and fed (breakfast and dinner) at a local college.  The only expenses to you will be your own transportation, lunch and equipment.  Car pooling is encouraged.

Last year, thanks to a very strong and consistent team, the Central Region won the Silver Medal for the team performance.   Join us this Sunday and help us compile another strong and dedicated team.

Note:  Please forward this email to anyone not listed in the groups above.  Could someone please forward this to FLCC's list and then let me know that it has been done?

Thanks,

Everyone,

The ESG Qualifier is Sunday, consisting of a 2.2mi uphill TT at 9am and a points race immediately after (start ~10:00).  At 11:30 the Cat 4-5 Circuit race starts for men, Women Cat 4s, and Juniors.

Margaret, Norm, and I need about 5 volunteers, mostly from 8:45-11:30.  We need 2-3 marshals for the TT from 9:00-10:00 and 2 persons to run the registration desk from 9:00-11:15.

It is pretty easy compared to the BCR, and if you volunteer (or sacrifice a loved one for the cause) you get free entry into the Circuit Race.  :-)

Please email me… Thank-you!

Todd Sherwood sporting the new helmet, borrowed Harold's Spinnergys, and promtly clipped 1 second off the course record. Thanks, thanks a lot. Like Todd needs the help!

Subject: STBC: French Tract Off-Limits to Mountain Biking

To all members:

The club received a phone call from a representative of the group that holds the lease on this property.  The area is posted with no trespassing signs and bicycling is not allowed.

A recent publication listed the "French Tract" in the Town of Binghamton as a mountain biking locale.  The publisher told the rep that the information came from the Southern Tier Bicycle Club.  Not directly but in a roundabout way it did.  It actually came from the personal web site of one of our members to which we used to maintain a link.  The misinformation has been removed from his web site.

I spoke with the rep earlier today and told him that we found out where the info had come from and it had been removed.  I asked what else he would like us to do.

He thanked me for what we have done and asked that we spread the word that the area is private and off-limits to mountain biking.

Please respect this group's property rights and do not mountain bike in the French Tract.

Don Robertson, President
Southern Tier Bicycle Club

Thursday @ 369, it's a long one. 20 miles. Rode out the ten miles, there are a few dings in the shoulder, one down tree top that fills it at one point. New paint, I will not put out a turnaround cone, gas prices and my truck are not playing well together!
I'm not sure how we stand on volunteers, Dawn?
The following week @ 79 may have to be swapped , they are doing bridge repairs. Will keep you posted.
Thanks,
Paul
p.s. Anybody have a job opening? I have to get out of the golf maintenance business........

We had 23 riders show up for the first mountainous event of the year at the ESG course.  Weather was great with minimal winds.  The peloton stayed together up and over Penn Ave and headed down towards the first KOM up the category 3 Col de Hance.  The peloton was no more about a nanosecond after the climb began as Farabaugh, Kane, Sergey, and Sherwood got an immediate gap with Kumiega, Peeling, Peranich, and Finklestein in hot pursuit.  Farabaugh popped off his rear wheel going for the KOM and had to join the chasers as the riders headed down the decent of State Line road.  Next was the category 1 climb up the Paso de Gardner.  In the lead group it was Sergey starting to get a smart gap on the rest as Farabaugh was able to bridge back to the leaders.  Sergey was able to maintain this gap of about 15-20 seconds up the final KOM to the peak of the Col de Hogan.  From there he was able to finish what he began and take out the win with Kane, Sherwood, and Farabaugh close behind.

Next week is ROUTE 369.  Parking is at the park n ride in Port Crane, off exit 3 of I 88.

Hello,

I have a FSA Carbon Team Crankset 48/34 that I bought to build up on a cross bike.  I no longer plan on building the bike up so I am looking to sell them.  I never rode them and they were lightly used by the previously owner.  Excellent condition.  Paid $200 looking for $125 or best offer.

FSA Team Issue Carbon Crankset: $125 or best offer.

Thanks,

Jason

Actually it was after one practice lap of the ESG course. And i was
misquoted, I didn't say I won the fight.
No do I know who's bandanna they found.
Clearly, too much Ovaltine is a problem for me. I believe it should be
banned from the sport before others are found wandering the street
aimlessly.

Not for what I had in mind. I need enough power for a sp camera, 2 - 3
monitors, 2 tape decks. At least enough power for the camera, 1
monitor and a tape deck. If anyone has a gas generator , that would
work if there isn't a electric hook up.

This is actually ONE site, two races same day.

TVC has a battery pack that should run that camera for awhile..... Paul Palmer has it for running the PC / Printer for TTS. If we limit to runnning it for the finishes, I think it would be plenty.
