-Hey Tammy, great pics thanks!
I'd love to post pics from there if I can get ahold of anyone who can
give them to me. I was too busy performing and marching to take any
myself. I'm thinking Daq'a mom may have some good shots.

Cheers

Hello everyone,

What a busy week! Mel was instructor for a week of martial arts fun
with the kids at the Croydon Day Camp.

Jeanna, Dustin and I pitched in to help with demos, equipment, etc.

All the kids were great!!! They really enjoyed all aspects of each
days activities. Everything from from basics to the horse stance
competition on Thursday.

Due to limited space in our photos area, I've added the photos to my
yahoo web page. Here is the link

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/taichimom1/album?.dir=/ac65

I'll also add the link to our "links" page for future reference.

Hope you all enjoy the pics,
Tammy

Hey gang,

I'd like to say that another sucessful sash testing and for the first
time a separate large scale demo/performance complete with a 50/50
drawing for prizes was held this Friday at LMAC (Li's Martial arts ctr).
This was perhaps one of the largest testings ever with a debut of the
little kids Shaolin Karate class as well as the newly formed
Aerobic/Fitness kicboxing class. Coach Li has decided to move forward
with expanding his programs at LMAC and proactively promoting new
growth of membership in his school with successful results. THursday
was the actual sash testing and Friday was the big Extravaganza
featuring performances from the students of the school. First up was
the recently formed aerobic kickboxing class with a 10 minute sample.
THen came the kids and underrank sashs demonstarting wushu, handforms,
weaponry and tumbling skills which certainly wowed the crowd. THen
shifting gears came the students of the Internal arts program
demonstrating calmness and precision with demos of TaiChi, XingYi.
Rounding out the entertainment portion of the program was the group
demo which included for the firsttime, 2man handfighting sets and a 3
person weapons fighting set! The night finally ended with the sash
presentation for those who tested and passed their exam and the 50/50
drawing of some great prizes for some lucky winners which included silk
uniforms, a whipchain, a straightswrd, and a package for free lessons.
Pics will be posted as soon as possible.

  Cheers!

  Mel

Hey Gang,

That time of year has come around yet again! The annual US Chinese
Kuoshu Federation Tournament in HuntValley Maryland. This is perhaps
the largest all Chinese arts tournament in the immediate Tris-State
area within a 3hr drive radious. Very prestigeous, and a treat in the
variety of styles and divisions represented which you'll normally don't
get to see at most events. Trad Kungfu, wushu, Taichi Xingyi, Bagua
Wing chun, forms weapons and fighting, pushhands. Shuaijiao, padded
weapons sparring. You name and they have it.
Even if your are not up for competing. THe venders tables are great for
those hard to find items from Kungfu movies to kungfu workout pants in
your size are great prices. I understand that this year a big group
from Coach Li's school is going down which we havn't seen in atleast 3
years. I was fortuenatel enought to win double gold medals in XIngYi
forms and light contact sparring back in 2003. The partying at the
hotel pub afterwards is worth mentioning. Big fun!

  Cheers!

I wanted to share an update about new free resources at

The Tai Chi & Qigong enthusiasts who have come from around the world
to create World Tai Chi & Qigong Day, have together created a
profound global event that is providing healing benefits to people
worldwide in many many ways . . . see the comments at:

One problem we've had with our new www.worldtaichiday.org site is
that the hundreds of pages of valuable free content are hard to
display. So below are a few direct links, you, or your friends/co-
workers, or students (if you are a teacher or association) can
enjoy. Please pass these links on to all you know.

At this below link you'll find two things. 1) a FREE SITTING QIGONG
RELAXATION THERAPY, you can listen to online anytime, at work or
home to chill out, get fresh, and immerse yourself in Qi. 2) a
video explanation of "Qi". This is a great content link for all Tai

Hey Gang,

For those of you who wern't there last Saturday in Willingboro NJ
for the annual WTCD festival, you missed a real treat. This was my
2nd year attending and this year I brought along Master Li's school
combined with the Bristol branch for a demo that rocked! Though the
weather outside was dreary with heavy rains the action inside made
up for it. Our combined schools demo was the highlight of the day
needless to say. We opened with the Internal program demonstrating
TaiChi, Xing Yi, Chen broadsword and Yang style straight sword with
alittle Push hands thrown in, then we changed gears androcked them
all with a high energy wushu demo by the kids choreographed by Coach
Li with broadsword, Longfist, Longstaff by Lucinda and whipchain by
Dominic and High flying acrobatics by Robert, Maresia and Stephanie.
Bristol's own Tammy Shum provided the outstanding photos! To view
the pic go to LINKS, CLick EXPANDED PHOTOS Area, then LI's school.
The new pics are at the bottom and there's more to come.

Bob Orlando is a long time student of Pentjak Silat and Chinese
Kuntao, and
is certified by Dutch Indonesian Master Willem De Thouars. Sifu
Orlando is
also an accomplished instructor with over 30 years of experience. He
is the
author of "Indonesian Fighting Fundamentals; The Brutal Arts of the
Archipelago" and "Martial Arts America. A Western Approach to
Eastern Arts".
The Indonesian Martial Arts were formed out of necessity and
grounded in
reality on techniques and training methods that actually work. The
Arts of
Silat and Kuntao are not meant for sport. A workshop with Sifu
Orlando will
result in an understanding of self defense applications by defining
and
exploring the underlying principles and concepts of a brutal and
unrelenting
fighting art. The beauty of these two arts are that anyone of any
size and
strength can apply them. And because of the numerous throws, locks,
and
takedowns from different entries; this is a very practical and
effective art
for law enforcement and military personal. So don't miss this great
opportunity to train and retain a incredible wealth of information,
skill,
and grace in Pentjak Silat and Kuntao with one of the great teachers
of the
fighting Arts of the Archipelago.

Hey gang, We're coming off of a big showing last weekend at Ivan
Mendez's Mercer County Karate/Kung fu championships. We've been
competing here for the last 4 years or so. New this year was the
location at Rider College which was a big improvement in getting
there. But the most noticeable improvement over all was the beautiful
trophys! 1st and 2nd place were gorgeous statuettes of General Kwan
Gung, in different poses, the patron saint of Chinese Martial arts
for which the weapon the Kwan Dao is named for. Very different than
the typical trophies one usually sees which your lucky to be able to
get home in one piece without falling apart on you! Members
representing both the Bristol Pa school and Coach Li's school in
Washington Twnship NJ competed and came home with impressive wins.
Brandon H. from Li's Martial Arts Center competed for the first time
ever and came home with 1st place in Intermediate Boys sparring.
Jeana S. from the Bristol Pa school came home with two 1st places for
weapons (Broadsword) and Handforms (Longfist) and 2nd place for
sparring. Kent R. also from the Bristol branch debuted in
intermediate 12yrolds with impressive performances in both handforms
and sparring but placed outside of the top 3 positions as a finalist.
In the Adult divs. I myself placed 1st in Exec heavyweight sparring,
2nd in Senior weapons (broadsword) and Finalist in Exec Handforms.
Master Saboto Trent coming off a 6 year "Retirement" returned to the
competition floor with an impressive 1st place win in Exec light
weight blackbelt sparring and finaled in Exec handforms. Blackbelts
Ben Outlaw took a hardfought 2nd place in Senior Heavyweights and
Todd Graham fought an impressive match taking 3rd in senior
Middleweights. This was the largest representation for our school at
a competition in recent memory. It was great to see us represented in
impressive numbers.

  Cheers!

Hello Everyone,
This is my first post and in honor of St. Patty's day would like to
share this.

Murphy's Laws of Martial Arts

The wimp who made it through the eliminations on luck alone will
suddenly turn into Bruce Lee when you're up against him.

The referee will always be looking the other way when you score.

You will have trouble with the ties on your dobok pants when
members of the opposite sex are in class.

The day you leave work early to make it to class on time,
the instructor will be sick.

The instructor will only use you during demonstrations for
joint-locking techniques.

If you have to use your training in self-defense,
your attacker's father will be a lawyer.

After a flawless demonstration, you will trip on your way back
to your seat.

After years of training without a single injury, you will pull
a groin muscle the night before your black belt exam.

In an otherwise vacant locker room, the only other person will
have the locker right next to yours.

No matter how many times you take care of it before your
promotion exam, you will invariably have to go to the bathroom
when it's your turn.

Hey gang,

Hock Hochiem returns to beautiful Lamberville NJ at the Hibernia
Fight gym. I attended his first workshop last June with some friends
who came up from North Virgina and North Jersey. It made for a fun
and Funky time. I mean funky like a monkey! We worked on stuff you

Hey gang, Although our group has been acquainted with the PA Taiji
Teacher's association for nearly 5 years, this was the first
oppritunity I've had to finally attend the dinner banquet I've heard
so much about. Claudia and Jim joined me for the night's fun. I was
afraid there would be problems getting downtown and finding parking
due to the fact that the date clashed with the Big Car show at the
Philly Convention Center. There was some gridlock but it was
bearable. Also conisdering it to be Febuary, we were blessed with
some decent weather, a beautiful night with Chinese NewYear's
fireworks going off against the Philly skyline as we walked to the
restaurant from our parking area with sword in hand no less! It was
still a bit breezy for wearing Chinese silk formals, but I hung in
there sniffles and all from the head cold I'm fighting off. It was
great seeing all the taiji guys from the picnic and the Taiji
tournament that just past. After we all settled in we were
entertained with alot of variety of demonstrations from TaiJi (Yang,
Wu, Chen Man Ching) Xing Yi, Ba Gua, Northern wushu Broadsword and
some walking Cane defenses by master Tom Updegrove and Hypnotism
thrown in by Master Jih. Chen style Master Frank Shiery talked me
into performing Northern Broadsword despite my orignal intention of
perfroming taiji straightword. My perfromance went over incredibly
well, I think because the audience really enjoyed the change of pace
since there were already many beautiful taiji straightsword demos
performed. It definately pays to be different! To me the highlight
was the lighthearted "duel" between Frank Shiery and David Briggs in
a Xingyi Quan vs BaGua Zhang Battle with the guy from the picnic
singing the theme song from Once Upon a Time in China aka Emperor's
Mandate. Also worth mentioning was David Brigg's Comedy sketch "Slap
Happy" Bates.

Pics will be posted shortly!

Hey gang,

That time has come around again for the annual Taiji (Tai Chi) dinner
banquet. I understand this to be a fun event to attend with a
wonderful dinner menu, some light entertainment which includes Taiji
demonstrations, and a chance to get out and meet others in the Taiji
community. The dinner banquet is also a fundraiser to keep the Annual
TaiChi picnic held in September in Tylerpark Bucks county free to
provide and attend. My group has attended the picnic for the last 4
years and has performed there the last 2 years. For more information
about tickets for attending the dinner banquet, directions to the
location in Chinatown and dinner menu please go to
www.phillytaiji.com or email me directly!

  Cheers!
