Hey Gang, I'm coming off of a great weekend. Specifically the above
mentioned tournament. Competing also from our Bristol group that day
was Nicholas Cenkner and My son Kent. Jeana Sabotini unfortunately
caught a stomach virus Friday night and could not attend. Nicholas
and Kent looked quite impressive in the forms div as I was told by a
few judges and some older kungfu competitors. One Judge even made the
effort to get up out of his seat and run over to Kent to congratualte
him on his Tigerhand form which was a firsttime event for Kent. He
took a 3rd place out of an impressive field of 15 kids. Nicholas had
an exciting debut in the sparring div tieing 2-2 in the longest
perhaps hardest fought match of the div, but his opponant, obviously
a much more experienced competitor barely squeaked by in sudden
death. Also competing was longtime student/friend Bill Steiner, from
my days teaching Karate. Bill came out of a year's inactivity to try
his hand at the advanced level div and he put on a great show with an
impressive win in the eliminations and fighting for first place
against a very skilled and humongous opponant! Bill took 2nd. I
myself won the Seniors weapons div with my wushu broadsword form
against an impressive field of senior compeitiors. I also duplicated
my winning the Seniors div from last year and fought for the
grandchampionship. I had a battle on my hands against the winner of
the lightweight div who like myself was a veteran of the pro circuit.
His lightening fast feet against my equally fast hands! We also were
tied, 3-3 in sudden death, and he too sqeaked by with a point to take
this years championship. I was satisfide with a respectable showing
it was all good! Being a first time ever for some and firsttime in a
year for thosers, we've got the ring rust off and we're all looking
forward to the next one!
