Appalachia*

A surprising decision was made by team Quick Step-Innergetic after
completing a disappointing Amgen Tour of California which wrapped up
back on February 22nd. (The powerhouse team failed to record any stage
wins) From his home in Moorslede, Belgium, team manager Patrick
Lefevere announced last Wednesday that much of his team, including two
time winner of Paris Roubaix Tom Boonen and last year's Tour of
Flanders champion Stijn Devolder, will spend several days training in
and around northern West Virginia and southern Pennsylvania.
"We will be based for several days out of Morgantown West Virginia.
The climate, hills and weather will allow us to simulate the
challenges of the Ardennes classics, without the usual distraction of
the fans." (Belgium is well known for their fanatical cycling fan base)
"Except for the coal trucks, I think this will be good preparation for
the Ronde next week." said a coal dust and mud-spattered Tom Boonen
after a rainy 200 km training ride on Sunday, referring to his first
big goal of the season, Belgian super classic Ronde van Vlaanderen
(Tour of Flanders) on April 5th.
"We will wrap up our training on Wednesday this week, and head back to
Belgium. It was a good training week." reported Lefevere. "We just
hope young Kevin Seeldraeyers did not put on too many kilos while
here." Lefevere laughed, referring to his young team rider's apparent
fondness for the cheese fries and "FishbowlsR" of beer at local bar
and grille "Mario's Fishbowl."
"Not exactly like our frites, but I like the cheese too." joked the 22
year old Seeldraeyers.
Team Quick Step-Innergetic will race in the Tour of Flanders, which
starts in Brugge, Belgium on Sunday April 5th.
