Need to rule out a stress fracture first so you are not doing more harm running
on it.

Subject: Re: [Tri RATS] Pain in the ball of the foot
I too would be interested in people's thoughts on this. I've been having similar
pains in my left foot. Interestingly, I've also noticed that I was having pain
in the side of my left knee. Also, my left leg/foot is the most common site for
injuries, so I'm thinking it is likely uneven stride causing bruising . . . but
that's just a theory. I'm focusing on form pretty heavily to see if that helps
for now.

Greetings all,
I think I may either have bruised the ball of my foot somehow or may be
developing something like a Morton's neuroma. There's considerable
tenderness in the ball of my right foot when I run or when I walk barefoot.
The pain is not as noticeable when wearing padded shoes and just walking or
standing. It seems to be concentrated between the 2nd and 3rd toes (which
isn't the more typical location for a Morton's, i.e. between the 3rd and 4th
toes). I've palpated the foot and if I dig my finger into the ball of foot
deep enough I can recreate the pain but can't really feel any noticeable
lumps or knots. I also noticed numbness and tingling in my toes on that
foot when running. I'm in fairly new shoes (only about a month or so old
and the same style I've been using for at least a year-and-a-half) that are
not tight in the toe box.
I only started noticing it shortly after the National Half. I've done the
Advil, icing, Epsom salts/alcohol soaks, etc and am just trying to see if
there's anything else I should be doing before resigning to drag myself to
the doc. The only thing I haven't done is stop running... :)
This will certainly put a cramp (no pun intended) in my style for Sunday's
Cherry Blossom.
Thoughts or advice?
Thanks in advance,
Erik
