Sarah and Sue,

A friend and I have been doing sprints last year and this year. I think that our
pace times would be similar if you are interested in training together. We are
very relaxed competitors but enjoy the companionship.

We are doing Cayuga this weekend and Skinnyman on Labor Day. Drop me a note if
you want to meet up!! I live in Chenango Bridge and he lives in Endicott.

Hello folks!

I've been lurking on this email group for a few years and now that I am moving
back to Binghamton from Scranton I'd like to join in.

I've currently lost my two triathlon comrads-one moved to Colorado and one is
out of commission after finishing his first Ironman. So, I am slowly but surely
losing my mojo and looking for some fellow triathletes.

If you are interested in getting together for runs, I am game, however I only
run 8:00 mile splits on a good day (actually, only on a REALLY good day) and
hang in the mid 9s when I'm just trotting along. I have worked my way up to 8
mile runs, but lately I've been maxing out at 5. However, I would like to race a
half marathon this fall so I need motivation to "go the distance".

I'm also more than happy to join others for swims. I was a competitive swimmer
through college and I ran the "Swim to Win" program at the YMCA a few years ago
(where I plan to do my swims starting Aug 11). So, swimming is my forte and feel
free to take advantage of that (I'm also finishing up my MS in Nutrition which
could be helpful for some folks, too)!

I plan to join the velo club on some rides with my husband, but if there are any
joy riders around here feel free to get in touch with me. I have a killer road
bike that I bought off of target.com and when I hustle I can average a whopping
16 mph. It may be difficult to find someone who can keep up with me. =)

Looking forward to meeting some new folks!

Hello-

I was wondering if anyone might be intersted in meeting up during the
week for track interval workouts? (male or female) I run my workouts
at Binghamton University's track, but could go to about any track
location in the area.

Pretty much focused on 5k training right now, with my latest time
being 18:45. I am currently running my interval repeats +/- these
paces:

800m- 2:46
1000m- 3:29
1200m- 4:15
1600m- 5:48

Of course, in a perfect world, there would be someone who runs those
exact paces, but just having a partner somewhere near those paces
would be great for the comraderie. I am 34 years old if that matters.

Let me know! You can post on here, email or call:

Paula,

While I am no longer a beginner, I am a serious "back of the packer" as one
of the slowest runners in the club. I can tell you that everyone has been so
supportive of me. In fact they have begun many early starts just for people
like me, the tortoises of the club. These are commonly on 10K and longer
runs, although when any of us show up at the Wed night meets they will start
us 5 min early on the mile run. This helps keep the pace of the entire meet
on target. On the longer runs the early start allows us to get out ahead of
the group so that we finish close to the same time as the others. I'm on a
temporary (hopefully) healing hiatus, but I hope to be back before too long.
I'll try to find you at one of the events. Good luck and Welcome.

I just may show up on a Wednesday night now. Until people made it clear
that beginners are welcome, I was hesitant to consider that. I have
never had my heart in competitive sports because I worry that the cut-
throat mentality of many folks would scare me away. I respect
competition, but without support, encouragement, and a friendly
atmosphere it's not worth doing (for me, anyway). I think our culture
sometimes pushes us to think that "winning" is what matters, but what
kind of winnning is most important? I just want to do my personal best
around like-minded people, and have a good time. I am very social but
still feel an urge to run away when approaching a group of strangers
who all know each other. I'm glad for the nice replies here- thank you.

Warmly,
Paula

> I would also suggest the TCRS Wednesday Night Meets at Maine-Endwell.
They are on the track, but you will find a wide range of runners there-
from very fast to not so very fast. You will be made to feel very
welcome by everyone there. It is a good place to step up to racing. It
may make you feel more comfortable about entering a 5K, too.
> As far as shoes, I have heard that the place in Ithaca is good,
although I haven't been there myself. Fleet Feet in Syracuse is a
little further away but does provide excellent service. The people at
Run World are also knowledgable and helpful.

Interesting night. Black clouds started rolling in about 5:45pm.
We rushed and got the mile run started. The runners were soon
faced with lightning and thunder. Most finished. After a few minutes
we decided to call off the rest of the meet. There were some that
wanted to keep going but most wanted to get out of there. We had 29
runners sign-up. Thanks for your help George Joseph.

Mike...you're right and it's called direct access but the the drawback is there
is no guarantee the insurance company will pay which is what we have to tell all
of our patients that come in without a script.

Vicki--Adrian could get a referral from his regular MD for physical therapy,
which often times is better than an ortho for a running related injury that
doesn't require surgery, an Xray or MRI and often times, this is where the ortho
will refer a runner as a starting point--this injury could be something like
a hamstring pull and an ortho won't help much there...So Tier Physical
Therapy Associates-- in Vestal and Binghamton-- has treated MANY of our local
runners
(including myself) in getting them back on their (running feet) again.

Most importantly, if Adrian has pain running, he should definitely stop and
not try and train through it. Getting it checked out is a good idea if resting
it alone for a week doesn't help.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a local sports medicine doctor? My

husband, Adrian Butter, pulled something in his leg (top and back of the

leg... but the pain travels down the leg and behind the knee). He feels the

pain when he runs. It doesn't seem to be going away. We think he should

see an expert.

Thank you.
