Dear Club Members:
On behalf of Broome County Executive Barbara Fiala and Mayor Matthew
Ryan, I want to invite you to a news conference at 10:00 a.m. on
Wednesday, August 23rd at Recreation Park in Binghamton to formerly
announce this year's Chris Thater Memorial scheduled for August 26th
and 27th.
As a result of I Love New York's sponsorship commitment coupled with
the generous support from the many businesses in our community, this
year's race should be an outstanding success.
Thank you for your consideration and support of the Chris Thater
Memorial.
I look forward to seeing you at the kick-off news conference on
August 23rd and at the Chris Thater Memorial August 26th - 27th.
Again, many thanks for your support of the Chris Thater Memorial.
Sincerely,
James May/Grace Tabeek
A beautiful evening at M-E track, had 25 runners. Thanks to Sue Cain and Tom

I'd like to extend a huge thank you to all the volunteers that
helped at the Kelly LaBare 5K yesterday at Otseningo Park. We could
never have the success we have year after year with out all the
faithful volunteers that come back year after year.
Thanks to the following:
George Groome and Diane Macko on the computer.
Dan Dougherty...indespensible..we were short a few tables and Dan
was able to "come up with" at least 5 more, we asked no questions!!
He made the coffee, picked up the shirts, hammered things down,
knocked things over (barricades that were in the way), and generally
did anything and everything that needed getting done.
Sue Cain, Lorri and George Joseph helped at the registration table
and in the finish line.
Ann Noble and Mike Zwick helped out with pre-registration and the
finish line.
Barney Taylor helped out with set up and knocking things down
(barriers) and the finish line.
Brendan Flynn, Karen Fennie, Bob Pulz, Tim Hanna, Jordan Varano,
Roxie Staley, and Tom Morrissey all helped out with the finish line.
Helmut Betz was a road guard guiding people the right direction over
by the pond.
Steve McCullough was a road guard (with son Christopher in tow) down
by the turnaround.
Arielle Kent and her friend, Suzanne Chudacheck and her son Kyle
manned the water stop.
At mile 1 we had Brendan Sullivan-Sarinana, Mile 2 was Larry Lepak
and at Mile 3 was Corbin Kent.
Anthony Paniccia, his mother and his nieces helped out with water at
the finish line and set-up, clean up and everything in between.
Mike Kent was indespensible for set-up, and clearing people off the
course and headed up the Kid's Run.
Byron, not only helped with all the set-up and clean-up, but he won
the race in a very impressive time.
We thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts for helping us
celebrate Kelly's life and keep her memory alive.
Grace
You guys did a great job, as usaul, at the Matzke race. I am not the race
director, but I help the family because of my connection to M-E (I have keys to
everything!)

Thanks, Grace;
I'll be here at the Corporate Challenge. That would be easiest. If you see
Dan between now and then, please ask him to bring the tent reciept with him.
I'll try to reach him by phone, also. He's hard to track down. Thanks!

Hello to all.
The Kelly LaBAre 5k is on August 6th at 9:30 am at Otseningo Park in
Binghamton. I'm looking for volunteers to help out with the finish

Please let me know if you can help...we need quite a few volunteers if

help us out that day.

Thanks in advance.....much appreciated.

Grace Tabeek, my wife Barb and I volunteered at the Presbyterian Church in
Conklin on Sunday.
I was very impressed with the organization at the Presbyterian Church. They had
ample supplies of food, beverages and cleaning supplies for those affected by
the flood and the volunteers. It was apparent that they had a very good set up.
Carol and Ralph Fuller have been working at the Presbyterian Church since the
flood and are doing a great job. Carol assigns people to homes that need
volunteer help and gave us our assignment.
We went to two houses. The first home was right on the river and Grace and
Barney Taylor had been there the previous week. We took out the flood related
garbage that they had, took out a very wet carpet that we had to cut with a
knife and removed some furniture.
The owner of the second place had just gotten back into her home. We hauled mud
and sludge out of her basement for a couple of hours, bagged it and took it to
the curb. The basement is ruined and still has mud and sludge in it. It's not
an easy task as you have to shovel it, cart it, lift it up out of the basement,
bag it and then wheel barrow it or drag it to the curb. It's a very labor
intensive task. By the time we left the front lawn was covered with garbage
bags and other ruined stuff from the house.
We were able to offer some people that needed and appreciated it both some help
and compassion. I'm sure people that are devastated by the flood appreciate it
when others show that they care.

Thanks
Grace
I would like to express my sincere thanks to all who helped with the Apalachin
Fireman's Field Days 5K on June 10. The race was again successful this year and
I could not have done it without volunteers from the TCRC and my family. Also,
there were 2 new course records set for male and female. I apologize for any
confusion with the results. Look for a full race report in the next newsletter.
The following made it all happen:
Grace Tabeek
Barney Taylor
Brendan Flynn (I owe you $5)
Mike Zwick
Gary Fancher
Dan Dougherty
George Joseph
Karen Fennie
Larry Bosket
And my family, Rich, Tom Jessica and Jason, Becky and my co-director, Kaitlyn.
Special thanks to everyone who tried to steer the garbage truck around the
finish line. I apologize to anyone who was finishing at that time. Next year I
will do everything I can to close the road to everyone. If I left anyone out,
plese know that I appreciate all your help. Looking forward to next year.
