36th annual FORKS XV in the books.
We have a great team that puts on this race. The volunteers come out of the
wood-work and make this race a pleasure for all involved. The club (TCRC)
should be proud of this race. More to follow on volunteers.
The weather was threatening and it hurt the day of race registrants.
2008 we had 155 pre-registers and 80 walk-ups for a total of 235.
2009 we had 156 pre-registers and 47 walk-ups for a total of 203.
Run World-wide sponsored the race with shirts and prizes.
They were happy to associate with this race and they plan on
supporting next year as well. Please support them.
The weather was pretty good for running except for some wind.
There was a nice article in the Press & Sun-Bulletin by Mike Mangan.
Mike Murphy was the overall winner. His time was 53:43. He finished well ahead
(1:22) of runner up Steve Esposito. Daniel Ver was 3rd.
Boris Dzikovski was the 1st male Master.
Katie Radzik was the women's winner. Her time was real impressive
with a 55:57. Katie Aldridge was 2nd with 58:11 and Erica Riecke was
third. Women's Master winner was Charlene Lyford. Nice to see her
running. Congratulations to all the runners.
There are so many volunteers. If I miss someone, please let me know.
Registration was Kelley Hamlin, Ann Noble and Sue Cain. They were always
smiling and the $$$ balanced perfect (as usual).
Computer was Greg Amend and Diane Macko. Special thanks to this crew as I
wasn't sure we would have a computer until very late in the game.
The early start is very touchy and it was handled no problem.
Early Start was handled by Grace Andres and Dan Dougherty. They accompanied the
runners for the first 2 miles.
Dan Dougherty also supplied the coffee set-up.
We had 3 bikers who lead out the runners. Grace Tabeek, Shelley Reynolds and
Howie Pack. The air horn was great.
George Joseph co-ordinated the Start-line crew. Great job with all the timing
was done by all. The crew was Tom Morrissey, Jean Johnson, Dan
Dofton, Anne Richert, Trish Spring, Shaun Horan, Dan Dougherty, Chuck Barney and
Brendan Flynn.
George Verwys handed out the finishers cups.
Skip Hamlin, Dan Dougherty and myself marked the course and set-up the course
including the cones that were given to us by FAHS construction..
Skip Hamlin was the 1 mile timer.
Road Marshlls help get you around the course safely. Several did
double duty by working an early intersection and then hustling to
get to another one near the finish. Grace Andres, Ann Noble, Kelley Hamlin, Jean
Johnson, Karen Feenie and myself did a great job.
Many runner thanked us for having several water stops.
Waterstop at 2 miles was Lee Anderson, Kathy Anderson, Jeremy Anderson, Kirsten
Anderson and Fran Fitch. When everyone was by, this crew packed up and moved to
have a waterstop at 7.7 miles as well. Great job.
4 mile waterstop was Helmut Betz, Donna Russell and Pat Coveny.
6 mile waterstop was Dave Buchta, Ellen Jenner, and Dave Christian. Dave Buchta
even had to bring a sick person back to the cafeteria.
Lex Hamlin took care of the food. She bought the food. She cut up the food and
she arranged the food.
Skip Hamlin was the sweeper. He followed the last runner and picked up all the
course signs and cones.
Keven Pasterchik (No 13) wrote the checks.
Suzanne Myette got the club list done so I could use for registrations. She
also promoted the race with messages to the club.
Grace Tabeek got the insurance.
George Groome set-up the computer for this specific race.
Clean-up was mainly Kelley Hamlin and Lex Hamlin. Greg & I helped a little. BIG
THANKS.
Please thank these people if you see them. It takes a lot of volunteers
to put on this race.
