Re: 2nd Thurs, Longhorn tri and 2008 Season

Hi Gang,

Thank you to all the Tri4Him members who volunteered at the water
stop. You guys were great... Joey, Amy, Rupe, and everyone else,
thanks for cheering me on during the run. It really helped a lot,
spiritually and mentally, knowing you guys were there.

Joey, thanks for having the salt tabs handy on my first pass through.
Rup, the cup of water you threw on me the second lap was needed
badly. You looked a little apologetic (probably just kidding around),
but you hit me right where I needed it. I soaked myself with so much
water that second lap that I felt like I was back in the lake. :-p

I didn't break any PRs, but that was a REALLY HILLY course (bike and
run), so coming in only 6 minutes slower than Buffalo Springs this
year isn't too shabby, eh? Of course, everyone I've talked to agrees
that the swim course was marked a bit long (everyone's times were way
off). Also, the bike course was really 58 miles (not 56) due to last
minute detours to avoid unfinished construction areas. And I was, by
far, NOT the ONLY one walking up most of those hills on the run. So
all in all, it was a great race....thank God it's over. ~:-D

Well, that wraps up the Tri season for me. I was planning to do the
Ironman 101 at the Woodlands in Nov, but, of course, that got
cancelled….bummer. I did manage to complete the entire inaugural
Texas Tri Series (minus CapTexTri, of course). It was a well run and
very fun series from Galveston to Austin. I will probably do it again
next year (makes planning the season so much simpler <grin> and I
like the easy button) and will probably throw in Buffalo Springs
again just for giggles and grins. I'm also considering going for my
first Ironman next year by signing up for Florida in November 2008.
My brother pastors a church in Panama City, so I've at least got the
lodging & food covered…hallelujah.

Time now to shift into running mode for the off season, eh? I am
planning on doing the RunTex Distance Challenge to get ready for the
Austin Marathon. Hope to see some of you there. I must redeem myself
after cramping up the final 5 miles last year….just didn't take in
any salt…..dummy, dummy, dummy.

Sorry I can't make the meeting tomorrow, gotta teach them thar
college students, I does. :-p Hope you all have a great time together.

Don't forget to pray for our troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around
the globe. We all enjoy physical and spiritual freedoms thanks to the
sacrifices of others.

Peace and Joy….
