Hi Tom,
I recently bought a local, used '97 Y33 with a Strata Pro, which may be the
original shock.
I'm making that assumption because (1) overall, the bike is clean, in very good
condition with few signs of heavy usage or many miles except for more than a few
paint nicks along the carbon frame and rear linkage (from leaning and/or
transporting?) and (2) the front shock is a RockShox JudySL, also spec'd as
original equipment from Trek.
I'm thinking about replacing the Strata with a 6.5" Fox or comparable, in part
to slightly lower the rear of the bike, for reasons unrelated to your question.
I've now ridden the bike for a couple of weeks (on the street only; not
off-road) after first having my LBS pump some additional air into it. The shock
has performed well, with no noises. I just checked for leaks and found a pencil
eraser-sized spot on my finger from rubbing the bottom of the shock. I don't
know if that's normal or a sign of leakage.
In any case, I may be willing to part with it in the near future if I can obtain
a replacement shorter shock at a reasonable cost.
