Re: New Project

Thanks for the ideas guys! I think we are going to have to invest in a real
round pen. When I was working with Comanche last year we had a small pen that
was too small to lunge in but I used it to desensitize him to the saddle and
tack. He is getting his teeth floated today (his previous owner never had him
looked at by a vet so his teeth haven't been done in 13 years) so I will start
working with him again after that. My sister and I are anxious to get started
and are looking forward to a calm start. As far as the lunging is concerned,
when Comanche belonged to his previous owner he was sent to an idiotic trainer
in New York for a couple of months who did things the old fashioned way - he
really "broke" the horses. In my opinion beating the horse and making him
terrified of everything is no way to create a happy obedient horse, especially
in a mustang who had limited experience with people. But we've been playing with
Comanche everyday and he seems very comfortable with us. We just have to change
his way of thinking with lunging and under saddle work. This will be an
experience and I'm looking forward to it!

-Cara
