Re: [training-horses] Re: Trailer Loading

In the situation I was talking about food would not used as a bribe but
to change the way the horse has loaded in the past. Too many horses get
in fine and then panic, or don't know how to back out. Getting them to
stop half way is sometimes a challenge and having food on the floor in
the middle of the trailer works really well. Also when a horse is
chewing he is using his parasympathetic part of his nervous system which
is to rest and eat, which means they will be less likely to be in the
sympathetic mode which is fight or flight. I don't like food for reward
as part of my normal training practice but in this case it has helped
alot and the food is not coming from anyones hands. Gina
