I've never run trails before. I run on the street. I've been running
most of my life and love it. do not go fast but want to run with
other women. Trails sound great! Could someone message me back and let
me know what kind of pace is expected and how often do you all run
together?
thanks Sarah

Hi Ladies,

There have been a couple of questions about pace of LUNA Chix runs.

Team LUNA Chix team members volunteer as Lead and Sweep runners for each
distance offered at our training runs so no one will be left behind. The
sweep runner always knows where the slowest runner is, makes sure she is
not alone, and can help plan a short-cut back to the start if necessary.

We do not have formal pace groups, and have a diversity of paces on each
of our training runs. Because we often run hilly trails, "average paces"
aren't a very good way to describe our runs. A 9 minute per mile pace on
the trail can be comparable to a 7:30 minute mile on the road. On past
hilly training runs, it often takes us 2 hrs to run 10 miles, including
bathroom and water breaks. Some of our runners religiously hike the steep
uphills, to conserve strength for more runnable terrain, and that's okay
too!

Our group seeks to provide an environment for women runners of all
abilities to enjoy trail running and camraderie, and to learn more about
the Breast Cancer Fund. To date, we have not had issues with huge
disparities in paces. If you are feeling too slow or too fast-- please
don't dwell on it and just come out and run!

I hope this is helpful.

Hello,

I am considering running with your run group.  Does your group offer pace groups or do you all run at a similar pace?  If pace groups, what are the paces and if everyone runs at a similar pace, what is the pace?

Thanks,

Jodi

My name is Theresa and I just signed up to this yahoo group last night!  I am new to trail running and have only been road jogging for a few months and am at a 12 min pace. I've jogged up at Tilden a few times to try and start the whole trail running thing. I've been kicking around the idea of trying the 6 mile this Saturday. If we both go we can know at least two of us are bringing up the rear!

Enter your vote today! A new poll has been created for the
trailunachix group:

Would you attend a group run this Saturday in the Presidio, San Francisco, ~6
miles in length? It has been suggested that we run Saturday at 9AM, departing
from the Warming Hut near Crissy Field. There is a 70% chance of rain at this
time (rain also predicted for Sunday).
Before we commit to attending, we want to see if there is sufficient interest,
as a main motivation is to give folks who couldn't attend the recent Meet the
Team run a chance to meet us. Thank you for responding at your earliest
convenience as we need to decide very soon.

o Yes, even in the rain.
o No, have other plans already.

To vote, please visit the following web page:

Note: Please do not reply to this message. Poll votes are
not collected via email. To vote, you must go to the Yahoo! Groups
web site listed above.

Thanks!

Hi Trail Running Women:

What an inspiring run a couple of weeks ago on the Coastal Trail.
Thank you to the 8 new women who ran with us! We'll post a picture
soon of our great group. Wish we had brought a camera at the top of
Slacker Trail to capture the ocean vista. What a misnomer!

We want to let everyone know that the team application deadline is
this Friday by 5pm. If you didn't get a chance to meet and run with
us already, please include a picture (running photos or regular
photo) so we can match a face with your application.

The LUNA Chix Trail Running team is a group of non-competitive women
runners from Marin, East Bay and San Francisco who simply love to
run. We want to share our excitement and encourage women across all
levels of running to get outside and run with us. We also are
committed to raise money and awareness for the Breast Cancer
Fund, whose tireless work to identify and advocate for the
elimination of the environmental causes of breast cancer is an
inspiration.

Our athletic levels range from "fast" to "lets enjoy the race and
scenery" runners. With different careers, busy lives, families,
friends, and all the other activities imaginable, we savor our time
running together and exploring new trails around the Bay Area.

2008 will be our 4th season and we are looking to grow our team. If
you are a runner who just wants to run with a fun group of women-- we
need more of you too, so come out and attend our runs, which are free
and open to all women. Being a team member requires leadership and
commitment, above and beyond participating in training runs and races.

Our 2007 Season included biweekly training runs, monthly races, and
events. See our 2007 calendar for more details:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/trailunachix

Drop us a note if you have questions. Look for our 2008 Season
Calendar of training runs and races to be out soon. Our season
typically runs from April to October. This year's Team LUNA Chix
Summit is the evening of April 11th through April 13th in Mill
Valley, CA.

Hi,

I'm not real familiar with that area.  When headed south from Marin, is it the last exit before the bridge on the right side of the freeway?

Thanks,

Come on out and meet Team LUNA Chix for a run on Sunday February 10th
from 9AM-Noon. Meeting Point is the Golden Gate Bridge parking lot
on the Sausalito side. Opposite from the Golden Gate Vista point.
This is a small parking lot on Conzelman Rd.

The run to Rodeo Beach and back is ~10 miles. It is an out-and-back
run, so shorter options are available. It typically takes our team
~2 hrs to finish this run, which has beautiful vistas of San
Francisco, Marin headlands, and the Ocean.

Please bring water since there are no water stops till we get to the
Rodeo beach. We will bring LUNA bars, LUNA moons, and Recovery drinks
for after the run. There is no bathroom at the start; the only
bathroom available is at the halfway point at Rodeo Beach.

This is a great way to get a leg up on the team application process
and to learn more about us to see if you are a good fit for the team.

The run will start promptly, so please plan you arrival time
accordingly. We will spend just a few minutes providing an overview
of our team and will be happy to answer any of your questions on the
trail or after the run over snacks!
