Yes, that does occur. However, the first half, at least, of the first
session, is under "ducks in a row." Someday, we'll be able to offer such
instruction -- meanwhile, I have "track nazis" cruising the track during
every session to make sure all is going well.

Did I read this right? You'll have people with 0 track experience on-track
without an instructor?

Between 20-25 in advanced group ( "A group", 7+ events), not more than 22 in
B group (4-6 events), and not more than 20 in C group (0-3 events).
Volunteer instruction will be available, from racers and advanced drivers
(at my "anal-retentive" discretion -- I would never in a lifetime risk your
safety nor your learning experience with someone I'd not been in a car
with). So there are three run groups, slotted for 25-30 minutes of time
each session each . . for a total of at least 2.5 hrs of track time. Time
permitting, at the end of the day, we do an open track session where
everyone can go play at the same time. Passing rules are similar to BMWCCA
. . . so are the common rules of etiquette.
Let me know if you've any more q's. If you have a convertible type car, a
roll bar is required. Helmets are availabe for daily rental at the track
for 25 bucks. Also, we have a group rate at the Golden Pheasant under "TEAM
Racing."

Can't give you free track time, Donna, as this is already a budget event,
but I'd certainly love to see ya and would be honored to give you a ride
along. =-) We could always do parade laps like at NASA last December. And
this time, you SHOULD light that smoke. Lol.
BW
Bonni,
Dunno if I can get that day off, but I'll see. Do you need
instructors? :) I finally got a Miata student from NCRC on Friday -
what fun!! She knows the CCW course but it was her first time CW.
Oh, Guido can't come out and play - he's sick! Bill found a broken
valve spring right after the TrackNutz event last month. Of course, this
was the best way to get bad news; total cost should be "only" a couple
of $k. But since Bill is doing OTC and 1Lap, G can't get fixed until
May. :(

Hi,
I need to rent a trailer preferably enclosed to haul a Ferrari
Challenge car to local california tracks. Anyone near
Torrance/Redondo Beach willing to rent me their trailer?
The yard is at curtner and 85 in san jose.

Unfortunately, our car trailer was broken into last saturday night at the RV
storage lot where we park it. Fortunately, the thieves were not
specifically targeting car trailers and did not seem to really know what
types of things were of most value. They did however steal a Honda
generator (oh no! there goes the AC), a blue Simpson race suit, a blue
G-Force two piece cotton suit, Blue simpson driving shoes, black G-Force
driving shoes, a G-force Helmet with yellow flame graphics and a Race
Electronics helmet rig, and miscellaneous gloves, balaclavas, nomex undies
etc.
Luckily, they did not notice/find the tool boxes or radio gear and although
they rummaged through the car they did not vandalize or damage anything.
If anyone sees any of this kind of stuff for sale at a garage sale or on
eBay, please let me know.
thanks,
jeff
Oh, I'm interested . . . but somehow I doubt a Miata driver would qualify. =-)
That and I doubt I'm any faster than you or most Bimmer owners. Lol. Well,
except for Donna -- but only when she feels sorry for me and lets me get ahead
-- otherwise, she smokes me too (Donna knows of what I joke about)! Lol.
BTW -- Donna, et.,al. -- Zippy is all patched up. Saturday I spent TEN HOURS
doing the water pump -- had to take off all the cam covers, the timing belt
(which I replaced since it was overdue), the cam seals, the front crank seal,
and the idler and tensioner pulleys. Eegads -- so much for my weekend. But
she's running like new again, ready for the next Enduro event to wear her out.
Haha. Zippy is still jealous of the parade laps . . . lol -- I still say we
shoulda smoked a cigar or something, Donna.
Let me know if anyone's interested.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
One more thing -- the car is classed in T2. It's got 300+hp, light weight, big
brakes, good suspension, etc. In the right hands, this car has a shot at the
podium.
-p
So, my original co-driver can't make it, and my runner-up may be unable to
take the time off. The call is out -- I need a co-driver for OTC. I figured I'd
ask
this group first before posting more broadly.
The requirements for a co-driver with me are:
- Must be faster than I am (not difficult ;-)
- Must not kill equipment. I already had one of those events.
- Must be willing to drive long-haul legs so I'm not stuck driving them all
myself.
- Preferably someone who has tracked on E36M3, bonus points for someone
who has one and is willing to contribute spares ;-)
Simple needs. You'll need to cover your half of the entry fee, which is _way_
low as I'll be covering the event again for Roundel. You'll also need to split
expenses -- gas, a hotel room if you choose to share, food, etc. The car is
sponsored by UUC, so most consumables should be covered and it will be
well-prepped for the event.
Let me know if anyone's interested.

3) The water pump gasket came from the Arizona Mafia team.
I hope that's all the errors!

•NASA's annual 12-hour enduro was run Saturday, De
c 7 from 9am to 9pm.
The weather was perfect, unlike last year's hurricane
.
But the important news is that our own Navid Kahangi, John Fisher, and Ric
h
Biscevic won 1st Place Overall!! Wahoo
!
!
Scott Smith won in ES, coming in only seven laps behind Navid in spite o
f
three looong repair stops. His co-drivers were Bruce Matesso, Ralph Warr
en,
and Nigel Bu
r
ns.
John's other car took 3rd in E1; the other drivers were Dean Mansour, J
erry
Brown, and Doug Ellsworth. Dean was drafted from Margaret's Miata
team,
and Jerry from a Sentra (??) team when that car broke
down.
Tammi's car came in 4th in E1. She didn't drive this year but handed t
he car
over to Bill Arnold, Billy Maher, Tim Bringman, and Ken Myers. Her c
rew's t-
shirts were a hit all over the paddock, printed with the slogan "A drink
ing team
with a racing
p
roblem."
Even without driving our (ok, my) favorite marque, BMW owners
took the
podium in other classes. Brandon Wheaton was 2nd overall i
n his Spec
Racer, and Margaret Cheng, in her very first race, drove her Miat
a to 3r
d
in
class.
This group was also well represented in the crew. Although each
car had its
own official crew, we all supported all four cars. Ralph Fallan
t was overall
Crew Chief and did an awesome job. Jim Bassett and Steve
Walsh were on
car-communication (and looked sooo professional in their headset
s <g>).
Peter Guagenti was the brave spotter who stood in pit lane and got t
he cars
stopped on the fueling mats. I was o
n
e of the two fuelers and Tammi's team
captain.
Other "local heroes" invo
lved were Jim Mercado, also on car-communication
duty, and Jim Ochi, a nati
onal-level autocrosser who decided road racing is
not for him because "you ne
ed too many people." :) It was also great to have
Jeff Stowe stop by our pits
for a while. We missed you, Chet - you deserved to
be
u
p there with us after last year's miserable weather!
Obviously, there are a h
undred stories from a 12-hour race... if Tammi sends
me a soft copy of her writ
eup for the NASA newsletter, I'll post it in the files
section
. I also hope Peter G will make a photo folder for us.
Several of us h
elped Bill Arnold change Tammi's water pump in an hour,
(thanks to John's spa
re gasket) while Jim put on new brake pads and rotors.
Scott, in ES, was the
only one allowed to change more than one tire in the hot
pits. After a four-
tire change during a re
f
ueling stop, we all felt lik

It was an incredible day!
