Jim,
You've pretty much figured it out. All of the reasons you listed. I
think I've reached my comfort level on the track with my daily driver
(M3/4). For me to take it to the next level, I would want to have a
roll bar/cage for safety and something rather inexpensive so if God
forbid I wreck it, I still can go to work the next day. I just
couldn't see myself putting a roll cage in my 4 door baby hauler! If
I had a coupe, I would just convert it to a track car and get a
normal sedan for the family.

Hi gang, I am considering buying an E30M3 for track use. I found a race prepped car in LA owned by friend's friend named Vladin. He's does club racing. He has...
I was there and I remember the car. In fact my buddy Ralph and I looked at it pretty hard while we were there. We were thinking about replacing our E-Mod 2002...
Peter wrote to me privately before I saw his post here, so I gave him a long reply offline, saying the same things in general (of course). ... I inferred from...
Thanks for all the thorough and honest responses. I think I'm gonna take my time to think about what I want. I don't think I will buy a full on race prepped...
I agree with Bora (and 5000 others) that an E30 is more fun than an E36. And the fun factor went up again with the race suspension. The question then becomes,...
... Depends on the repair :-) But yeah, an E36 325 is a good choice for the budget-minded. A less high-strung motor, lots of bolt-on stuff (from M3s &...

I think an E30 325i fits what you want more than an E30 M3, I know Kirk Lachman sold his for less than 10K for sure and this was a fully prepped stock class...
... I'm going to be controversial here and throw another car out: an early E36 328i/is or 325i/is They can be had for under $15k, have most of the torque...
... Not controversial at all, I believe I mentioned the same thing. :-) ... Jim Bassett M3 for the street, 325is for the track. Cheaper this way (in theory...
I have an E30M3, adn while I love it, the maintenance issues are pretty significant. If I had it to do over, especially since I put in new springs, shocks etc...

Jim has a lot more experience on the E30 M3 then I have. Despite his and Donna's advice, I purchased an E30 M3 that was club raced for two seasons by Ren...
... Not all of it good :-) ... Yep, that car was very well maintained. You got a good one, Bora. ... Just the next class up, I-Stock. ... Oh yeah, I forgot to...
