Guido and I raced for the first time this
weekend!
Big thanks to Jim B, Andrie (Crew Chief), Mike M.,
and Dean M. for taking such good care of us. Ralph
and Steve also made their racing debut with the Mango
'02. Maybe they'll post their funny enduro stories
(where are the reflectors...?) Kit and Matt were also
there - sorry I didn't see much of them.

Since I
went to a BMW CCA racing school, there were only two
big surprises:
- Dirt _all over_ the track! We
shared our 45-car race group with 15 Camaro-Mustang
Challenge cars - _very_ crowded. They must have stronger
oil pans than BMWs, since their 'racing surface'
extended several feet to either side of the track. :) I
did manage not to hit any of the many cars that spun
in front of me.
- It must have been the rookie
"X," but nearly all the racers were waiting for a
point-by before passing me. It took me a long time to
figure out that's why they were piling up behind me -
even Group 3 doesn't bother waiting! I appreciated the
gesture, but I wish I knew the track better - then I'd
know which side to point them. The only one who didn't
wait was Navid (go figure!) but he was chasing Rich &
knew I'd figure out a way to make room for him in the
esses.

We finished shiny side up, 2nd in class and looking
forward to next month's race at Thunderhill!

Firstly, Donna deserves a big round of applause for the past weekend. She drove consistently and with due respect for the other drivers. Well probably more ...
Was wondering if any of you want to sign up to drive or instruct at this school. My buddy and I are planning to sign up. It'll be his first track school. He...
Schedule looks clear so far, so I'll definitely consider it. But my main focus right now is trying to get ahold of JF to get the race car ready for THill next ...
I posed the same question to Bora's BAM3 list. Jason B and Jeff S are up for it, but Chris C says the movie is really bad. I've added you to the cc list to...
Aaron Tachibana is holding a two-day DE event. Lots of seat time (usually six 20-min sessions per day). Cost is $385 for both days. Mostly Miatas but anyone is...
So I've decided to sell my E30 M3 (sob) to fund some Club Racing. It's an '88 with just under 89K miles on it. Excellent condition, LOTS of new parts, and very...
Just came back from Thunderhill on Friday and lost my third head gasket in as many trips to wonderful Willows and I can't keep up w/ the cost any more, so it's...
So how much does it cost to get a head gasket replaced on an E30 M3?

BTW, there is an E30M3 (white) for sale at Mohr Imports asking for 12K with 96K ...
If you have to ask... <g> Seriously, with an overheating problem, there's no way to tell until it's opened up.

For $12k an E30M3 with 100k on it...
It'll cost you $4000 to find out (that's the teardown and rebuild). I'm in a holding pattern right now as it's being torn apart. Any more work or additional...
So, if the M3 is going I need another toy. Anybody have any experience with the new MR2 Spyder. It seems they're not as impossible to get as I thought and as a...
I've owned 3 MR2's over the years ('86, '89 Supercharged, '91 Turbo - the '86 was the most fun by far). Given that background, the new MR2 Spyder is pretty ...
I thought it was built the same way the S2000 was built. As an open unibody-construction(sp?) body.

S2K is very very stiff, I would expect the MR2spyder...
Maybe. I don't think any open-topped low -$20K car is going to be very stiff.

I don't want an S2K engine until they work out the, uhh, kinks. Besides, a...
Heh, funny. The 911 is intriguing, but I can't do it this time around. This year's racing budget has already been very spent on the M3 so I need something that...
gofastlane,

Your ".. $27K .. fun factor .. scale well .. inexpensive to maintain for years.." criteria could be used for an ad brochure for the Miata. ...
