I walked the Towpath 1/2 last year and everything was great EXCEPT.....when I
reached the marathon start point, the runners has not been started yet. i was
yelling "walker coming through" but got little help picking my way through the
runners anticipating the start gun. I was even called some pretty nice names
for trying to make my way to the front of the crowd......... this is really bad
planning. Race officials either need to establish a passing lane through that
crowd for the walkers or start the runners sooner. I had a pr of 2:56 and
change, so its logical to expect that a walker will be at mile 2 within 26 mins
and mile 3 within 39.
I don't recall if there was race-day reg, but I do know that everyone gets a
really nice finshing medal with the name of the race and date :)

Hey,
Will there be race day registration available? I live in Pittsburgh and was
planning on driving in the morning of the race.
Also, will there be finisher medals for those who participate and finish the
marathon?
Thanks for your time.
Rick
I ran the Towpath in the fall - it was my 1st marathon - and I was surprised at
how very flat the trail was! The fall colors and trees, water, trail, etc. are
absolutely extraordinary during that time of year in the area; very rich in
color. It was a beautiful distraction during the run :)
I can't speak to the "speed" of the route as this was my 1st marathon, but I can
say that the limestone did not produce as much impact on my knees as some other
substrates.

Yes, that's an accurate summary... It is also a beautiful scenic course in
the Fall.
George
Would it be accurate to say that due to the surface it will take more energy to
run it; but it would be easier on the body than a road surface?
Thanks,
Tony
I have run the current course twice and it is very flat. Taking place in the fall it is also very beautiful.
