I enjoyed the course of the Towpath very much, but I love trail running and tend to prefer the smaller marathons over the huge big city marathons out there. Spectators can be great, but I don't feel they are needed. Some people do. If you think you'll need crowds along the course to encourage you and get you through the 26 miles, this might not be your favorite. I picked this course for its relatively soft surface and the chance to run along trees and nature as opposed to city streets. Its just a matter of personal preference.

I'm another first time marathon runner considering running the Towpath
first. I was wondering if any experienced marathoner could compare
this run to one like the chicago or other bigger city marathon. I have
a feeling it might be harder finding the motivation if there's less
people around.
If someone might know the pros and cons of running this marathon to
others, I'd be very interested to hear about it.
Thanks in advance,
