Hello Everyone.
(I should have written this months ago.)
To be short, VISA looked at this parking issue, and after reveiwing my evidence,
decided to refund $25. of the $31.
Center City Parking did not dispute.
It was my fault for an extra charge by the "automatic pay station".
I should have been out of the lot by 6P.M. ...I punched out at 6:20.
What WE(myself and others) disputed was, why they would charge another $25.00
for an extra 20 minutes over the special rate.
WHY I was late is a whole other story. I wanted to finish.
To Charlie Pace... I'm sorry that you even had to read about this incident;
starting in 1983, all of my rides at TOSRV have been wonderful, and it has much
to do with your time, skill and effort.
Looking forward to TOSRV 2010!
Best Regards,
Mike

Since I had no reciept (because the machine refused to give one), he was unable

I recently rode RAGBRAI: Registar's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa. This
ride starts at the western side of Iowa, from the Missouri River and ends at the
eastern end of Iowa at the Mississippi River. Many dip their rear tire in the
Missouri at the start and their front tire in the Mississippi River at the
finish. This was their 37th annual ride and 3rd hilliest, as they change routes
each year. This year's started in Council Bluffs, IA and travelled through the
southern part of Iowa, finishing in Burlington IA. With the 100 mile option day
on day 5 of 7, it was about 475 miles, which is what I did when it was all said
and done. It is held the 3rd week of July each year.
RAGBRAI advertises itself as the biggest, longest and oldest ride in the USA.
They have a website forum like this and when I stated TOSRV was actually OLDER,
it raised the ire of many and then was told it was the OLDEST WEEK LONG bike
ride, which is more factually correct. I was then told by a few militant
RAGBRI'ers that their ride was better and TOSRV was merely a weekend sleeper
ride. They went on about how all of the local folks come out to support the ride
and what a big party it was/is.
Well, the locals do all come out....to sell everything from pie to turkey and
pork chops to water....finding "free water" is tough on this ride, when you
really need it, you need it. For $140 fee, you basically get your bags moved
from campsite to campsite and emergency sag service, that is it. You have to buy
ALL your food, and even have to pay $5 to take a cold shower, after standing in
line for over 1/2 hr!!! At the campsites, you have to find your own space to
pitch a tent and many charter services that cater to paying riders to setup camp
for them take the best sites and then try to keep you from setting up near them
which is against the rules but they intimidate and cajole you to go elsewhere.
If it wasn't for my girlfriend being upset to tears over it, I would have made
a stand against them.
Anyways, bottom line: RAGBRAI is a huge ride, over 9000 weeklong riders and
anywhere from 1000-6000 daily riders, many who don't register and "BANDIT" the
ride as it is called there. I paid my $140, but since my girlfriend set up and
tore down our campsite each day and drove following the sag route, I really
didn't use ANY RAGBRAI services, as I said, I had to pay for all food and even a
cold shower. RAGBRAI does have some of the most hardcore partiers I have seen,
reminicent of the early 80s on TOSRV when I started and was much younger and
able to hang....I have wanted to do RAGBRAI since about 1995 when I rode TOSRV
with a couple RAGBRAI veterans the last 25 miles on the Saturday leg. They told
me that they did the previous year's RAGBRAI on nothing but beer and water. I
kind of doubted them but when we arrived at the old West End Beverage Store by
the old bridge before we did Tracey Park, those guys bought a 12pk and were done
with 4 beers before I was done with my first, and I can drink beer at a rapid
rate, esp. on Sat TOSRV!!!
RAGBRAI is a good ride, Iowa has nice people and the scenery was good. Saw quite
a few Ohioans on the ride, and quite a few TOSRV jersies. There are also plenty
of TOMRV (Tour of Mississpi River Valley) jersies, another TOSRV knockoff no
doubt from another bike club.
To compare TOSRV to RAGBRAI is like the proverbial apples to oranges, both have
their respective charms and challenges. I am TOSRV'er who happened to do RAGBRAI
after wanting to for 14yrs. I can now mark that off my list.
Best,

Just to chime in....probably can never really be any true justice, in the eyes
of all....is it justice in "eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth" or any more or
less justice with "turning the other cheek"....
60 days, 60yrs will not bring back the good doctor. The tragedy for his family
must be so unbearable as to be unreal. Likewise, the woman will live with her
actions and inactions, such that they were and only she will ever truly know,
the rest of her life. I do not feel she got away with anything. Sure, as someone
stated, she can still be sued in civil court, but she may or may not seek relief
in bankruptcy if allowed....still, nothing will change what has already
happened.
Shortly after this tragedy, I told a couple close friends, that if this ever
becomes of me what happened to the doctor, to know that I died doing what I so
wanted to do and perhaps that will lessen any grief.
Celebrate life and living now while we can, life is so brief, barely a page in a
history book.....

You're forgiven, Darlene. As a manager of another group I belong to a group
managers forum. There was a lengthy discussion of Grouply and related sites
early this spring in GMF and no one had anything good to say about them. My
advice to everyone: Avoid Grouply so your fellow members don't get spammed. They
seem to be mostly about collecting email addresses.

Hello,
I wanted to apologize to everyone on this message board that received a
"Grouply" message stating the Darlene Lane wants to invite you to be a friend.
I tried to decline and did answer things correctly and "grouply" went to my
Yahoo message board.
Thank you for being so kind with declining. I truly understand. That was
honestly what I was trying to do.
I also wanted to post "Thanks" for a great TOSRV. This was my first year and I
now understand what the TOSRV experience is all about. I had a fantastic time.

Saturday is looking to be a beautiful day in the Columbus area. For those who
don't have cycling plans for Saturday morning, or for those who want to do
something a little different, try the first annual BikeColumbus.
BikeColumbus will start and finish at Genoa Park at COSI at 333 West Broad
Street. Registration for the 50 mile route (+14 mile optional extension) begins
at 7:30 am. Registration for the 20 mile route begins at 8:30 am. And
registration for the 7 mile family route begins at 9:30.
Lots of freebies, free lunch, well mapped routes, sags, etc. etc. etc.
For all the details, and online registration, go to
http://www.considerbiking.org You can register at the ride, too.
Proceeds go to the Institute for Active Living of the Columbus Public Health
Department.
Supported by AEP, OhioHealth, Trek, Pelotonia, Nationwide Childrens Hospital,
and, of course, Consider Biking.

Quick "back of the envelope" figuring....166 miles per day, 14-15mph is pretty
much an all day thing, ~11-12hrs riding. Hope he has an RV sag to feed him
