Kim:
You (plural, as in all who make TOSRV a success every year) do a *great* job
every year; some things are just beyond reasonable control. My own personal
opinion is that every ride has its risks, and the traditional route for
TOSRV is no exception. I'd hate to see the route (as congested as it is)
changed any more than necessary; the tracks give the ride personality.
Everyone who rides is warned of that crossing and has it in their control
how best to negotiate it. Maybe I'd feel differently if I were to fall
there, or maybe I'd just start walking my bike across the tracks.
Now if you could just do something to reduce the motorized traffic, the
rain, the wind ... ;-)
Phil
PS: 70 degrees would be nice.

Subject: [TOSRV] R.R. Crossing
To Whom It May Concern,
Let me first introduce myself. I am Kim Bauer, Portsmouth Director. I have
been reading all of the concerns of the Rushtown Crossing. This has been a
problem area for decades. Over the years we have tried a number of things to
insure the safety of all TOSRV riders. Unfortunately, accidents do happen.
This coming TOSRV we will again try to have the tracks covered with a
non-slip surface. We will have a carpet/canvas covering the ride area. We
will have to have this manned the entire time this is covered in case of a
train coming through that area. If you do cross and the covering isn't
there, that is an indication that we ran short of a volunteer to be there to
man the crossing.
We continue to try to take care of problems and address the needs of all
TOSRV riders. Have a good ride and we'll see you at Tracy Park.
Sincerely,
KimBauer
TOSRV - Portsmouth Director
