George,
sounds like you are doing fine. Just a few things that I learned from
doing TOSRV.
First I had never done more then 62 miles on my first TOSRV let alone
back to back long days. I trained hard that spring riding in wind, rain
what ever. I did a couple of rides leading up to TOSRV including the
Top of Ohio, good for a few hills and wind. If you can get in the miles
you should be fine. What worked for me was a few comforts. First I use
Butt'r. It keeps you from getting a bad rash. Keep some pain killers
with you, aleve, etc. I use it more for my neck and back. My first
TOSRV was cold & rain the first 50 miles on Saturday and a nasty head
wind on Sunday. I didn't know anyone then and peddled both days by my
self. Find someone to ride with if you don't have someone already. It
makes the ride a lot more fun. It isn't a race, just keep peddling.
Also if it is cold, don't stay at the stops to long, rewarming cold
legs isn't fun. Eat and drink, don't bonk! Prepare for anything weather
wise, hot and cold!! And finally it is my thought that a ride like
TOSRV is as much mental as physical. Talk your self up before the ride
and keep it going all weekend. I'm sure others will have advise that is
all good and works. You just have to find what is best for you and do
it.
