All: I was a bit hasty in my observations. Here are the latest
updated observations......to wit:
Official posters....not sure if 68-69 were an after the fact
poster/photo or promo for that year, taken from an earlier ride
(s),but they do not state mileage....
1969 sure looks like an official poster, but no mention of mileage.
1978,1986,1989,1998,2007, no mileage, all seem to be space
limitations that prevents the mileage to be denoted.
2002,2003,2004 all state 200 miles, before new route change. Most
people at that time were all but bypassing Circleville, which would
have added the requisite mileage to achieve 210, if not more.
Bypassing the first stop made it almost exactly 100 miles, depending
on where you stopped. The great West End Beverage finish was
100miles, Tracy Park adds some, including the nice route past the
murals..
2005-2006 returns the 210 mileage marker.
2008 ???? We wait for Greg Siple's artwork to dictate.......
Other notables......all the patches seem in order......98 was the one
and only year that the patch was not included in the tour price. I
balked at the extra $2.00, hence am missing that patch. Might buck up
for it here soon if I get my bonus $$ this year.
2007's ridership of 2,500+ is about where the tour was in 1973,
nowhere near the peak of 6,650 of 1989, but way ahead of 2 in 1962.
Also, about 1/2 of the riders dropped out in 1989 as the downpour at
the beginning was just horrible. That was the only year I turned
back, as I was not in rain gear and my friends I was with were the
ones who drove and if I continued on my own, that included finding a
way back to Cleveland with my bike. I now ride alone, and haven't
mised a ride since. I am almost over that 89 mishap.
Lastly, 1995 was the end of AYH affiliation and hopefully the wounds
have calloused over...personally, I can deal with no AYH, but the CAY
dinner was a fitting end to a great Saturday ride. Somehow gave you
semi-closure, even though you had to ride back the next day.
If anyone finds this information useless and/or boring, please feel
free not to read it.
