For me, I have participated in the ride 4 out of the last 6 years,
and I am only a one way rider since I ride the morning into Columbus
from Centerburg and then to The Port. Out of 4 rides, I have
experienced rain and bad weather on 3 trips. My first ride was
everything Mother Nature could throw at you, and that was fun
because it was me against the elements, along with everyone else.
Yes, it was a pain toward the beginning but, when I got to
Portsmouth it was a real feeling of accomplishment. Talking to
people whom I have never met and have a good time of it. The best
ride started out with clouds and I stayed just ahead of a weather
front the entire ride, arriving into Portsmouth with clear skies and
record setting temps of 93. The hills everyone talks about are
really nothing to speak of yes, they will wind you but it is only 15
miles of the ride and in a manner of speaking, I think they are
really low category hills. At this time of the year the winds are
early in spring and prevail from the Southwest and that can be a bit
uncomfortable if you do not like peddling into head winds.
Overall, I think the ride is good and it is well organized. The
timing might be more of a drawback, Mothers Day weekend and all but,
I will try to get the ride in for 2008. I will not be peddaling in
from Centerburg this year because that is too much riding in one day
for me, I will drive my bike to Columbus and start there.

years where we had rain both days. Bad weather tends to turn people
away. But the weather has been pretty darn good the last couple
years so expect to see the numbers start to climb again.

by this statement. I was under the impression that we had 3,000
riders in 2007. I saw many people I knnow from the Dayton area and
thoroughly enjoyed the event again.

help, but I do seem to recall that Tosrv was listed in Bicycling
magazine this last spring. Let's try to be positive and come up with
ways to help the people who sponsor this event to make it better and
play to a wider audience. Maybe we could start a blog about our
Tosrv experience or perhaps we could get a TV station to show the
fun in Tracy Park etc.
