There is one recommendation I would add to this.... Don't rely on
the 1-800 numbers. Oftentimes, the 1-800 reservation line will not
know exactly what rooms are available - at least not like the actual
hotel/motel managers. Sometimes they can have a better idea of
what's available or can even manipulate around a shortage. This
happened to me just a few minutes ago. Luckily the manager was able
to reserve two rooms where I had previously been told they were
booked.
