I have found that Bike shoes w/clipless pedals (why do they call them
clipless when you "clip in") are much more efficient and easier to
use. First their are no straps to try to adjust while you are riding
(a wreck waiting to happen for me) and I find my stroke much more
efficient as I am more easily able to have a smooth stroke by pulling
and pushing at the same time and much easier to maintain a consistent
cadence. The only downside is the first time or so you ride make
sure you have the adjustment fairly loose with some float or you may
forget you are "clipped" in and fall over when you stop.
If you have a trainer, try experimenting with clipless, I bet you
won't go back to the toe clips.
