RE: [TOSRV] Start the Training

The best thing you can do for preparation for TOSRV (or any century) is get
in the saddle time. For me at least, the hardest thing about riding 100+
miles the first time was having my buns in shape to ride that many hours.
Add in that you are doing it twice in a row. Work up to it gradually,
increasing weekly miles all spring. A real good test of your conditioning is
to do back-to-back metric centuries about 3-4 weeks before. If you can
handle two, 62 (or even 75) milers in a weekend, you’re ready.

Getting on a trainer now (or doing your regular commute) is great for
getting your legs and cardio in shape. Riding longer distances requires a
lot more stamina, the ability to handle aches and pains, knowing how and
when to eat (and drink), etc.

If you like to read, I’d recommend Bicycling Magazine’s Complete Book of
Long-Distance Cycling. You can save your $$$ get a lot of the same tips from
their website, but I’m a bookworm. You can even read it while riding on the
trainer!

Andrew,

I just wanted to welcome you to the messeg group and you will find a
lot of  information on and about this tour. I can tell you that the entry
forms come out the 15th this month. Last year the FULL and HALF TOSRV was
the same price but i am not sure what it is this year. When I trained for
the TOSRV i was averaging 50 miles with peroidzation a week with 2 off days
but thats me. Iam not sure if it cost anything if your wife stays on
saturday night. You can find alot of information on the fllowing websites:
  www.tosrv.org
  www.bicycling.com
hope to see you on the tour

I've been doing this for almost a year now. I think the most I've done so
far, in one day, is about 40 miles and that wasn't a big deal but I'm
curious if I need to do more to prepare for this ride? Also, is there any
cost for my wife if she drives down to meet me Saturday night and camps with
me? Finally, is the registration information up yet including the cost for
this year? Thanks!!!

  Hi all:

Tis January, time to start training for TOSRV! This is an early
century, so it is good news, bad news. Bad news first: need to train
NOW, in the winter. Good News: you will be fit for the summer season
and now you have something to do this winter!

See you on the road!
