The CHL recently added the Border City Bandits
located in Texarkana. The logo was released friday...a
orange and black racoon in a lime green and blue
shirt...um yuck! Border City Bandits-- Named Peter South
coach and
director of player personnel.

Mike
Berger has officially retired...AGAIN! hmm makes you
wonder if he'll show up playing for the Bandits. He
seems to unretire for expansion
teams!

Indianapolis Ice (CHL) -- Re-signed defenseman Dan Cousineau

operations

By Phillip Ramati & Thomas W.
Krause
The Macon Telegraph

Another season? Possibly
not. The Macon Whoopee officially
suspended
operations Tuesday morning.

Another reason? The
Whoopee wants exclusive indoor advertising rights
at
the Coliseum - something the city can't guarantee.

On Tuesday, team president Keith Burdette informed
the office staff, head
coach Graeme Townshend and
some players of the decision.

"We don't have a
contract (with the city)," Burdette said. "We can't
make
payroll, so we had to suspend operations. We still hope we
can get things
done and get things worked out. But
right now, we can't afford to pay the
staff."

<some stuff deleted>

Team employees spent
most of Tuesday packing up offices in the Coliseum.

Meanwhile, most people were caught off-guard by the team's
decision.

"I'm shocked about it, I guess," said
Townshend, who was visiting his
family in Toronto and
preparing for next week's CHL expansion draft. "I
was
told we would have to clear stuff out of the office,
and my wife is
going down there (Wednesday). As
far as I know, I'm out of a job ... which
kind of
sucks, because I was offered another job (in Lake
Charles, La.,
two months ago) and I turned it down.

"I was hoping for months that this thing would get
resolved, but there
were no signatures (on the new
lease). I'm not going to do anything until
Keith says
it's done."

<other stuff
deleted>

Even if the Whoopee does return to play next season,
the suspension of
business may prove extremely
damaging in the future. Townshend had
recruited several
new players and was hoping to keep together a
good
portion of the team that went 34-26-10 and made it to the
second round
of the playoffs. Now, those players may
seek employment elsewhere.

<rest of article
