The Topeka ScareCrows announced the signings of
defenseman Sergei Deshevyy and right wing Dale Lafrance for
the 2000-2001 season. Both players were rookies last
season.<br><br>"We're expecting big things from these two," said
ScareCrows Head Coach Paul Kelly. "Now that the league has
instituted the three rookie rule, Dale will fill one of our
rookie spots. Dale had a tough first pro season, but
should help us out. With Sergei, we will have the
toughest defenseman in the league playing with the best
defenseman in the league in John [Vary]."<br><br>A native of
Kiev, Ukraine, Deshevyy (6-4, 230) played in 43 games
last season and led the ScareCrows in penalty minutes
with 161. He had two assists on the year.
<br><br>Lafrance (6-1, 205), who started the season in
Bakersfield, saw limited action last season due to injury. The
Sudbury, Ontario native played in 13 games, recording one
goal and three assists. <br><br>The duo join
defenseman John Vary, center Blair Manning and goaltender
