This is really old and by this time it's official that Pedro is a
member of the Mets, but I figured this would be a good time to post
Glavine's own thoughts on the move.
I found an article in the Lowell Sun newspaper where Glavine talked
about Pedro coming aboard (He's happy about it.) The link is:
http://www.southpawcentral.com/news/2005a.htm
Here's a couple of quotes from Glavine that are in the article:
"You hear all the stories about what Pedro did, and people
saying 'Good luck with that guy'," said Glavine, referring to
Martinez's perceived tempestuous and self-centered behavior while
with the Red Sox. "But I'm a big believer that guys' reputations
aren't always what they're made out to be. I learned that lesson
years ago with Deion Sanders when he was with Atlanta. Everybody was
like, 'Why are we getting this guy?' And I fell into that, as well.
But he turned out to be one of the nicest guys I've ever played
with. You just never know.
"You know some things go on, but if the organization doesn't allow
it then it's not going to happen. If the organization does allow it
then it's going to continue to mushroom. I don't know what kind of
guy Pedro is. I do know that he's a great pitcher."
