Well, I think Tom really wanted to stay a member of the Atlanta
Braves, but it just didn't work out that way. They eventually gave
him the amount of years that he wanted in his contract, but they
wanted him to defer a large portion of his salary in the second and
third years...and I just don't think they could work out the dollar
amount of that deferment. So they parted ways. It's unfortunate
because he has spent his entire career with the Braves and it just
seemed like he was destined to remain a brave. It's definitely
disappointing for me as a Glavine fan. I am sure it was disappointing
for Tom as well. It's not that he was wanting to leave the team. He
wanted to stay, to finish his career with the Braves. It just
couldn't be worked out for that to happen. But, I am glad he was able
to find a team he felt comfortable with and that could give him what
he deserves. I think he has found that in the New York Mets. So, as
much as I have been conditioned to absolutely detest the Mets, I'm
having to sway from that now. Though I'll always remain a Braves fan,
I now am opening my heart to the Mets as well. Afterall, they just
landed one of the best southpaw pitchers (not to mention one of the
classiest human beings) in the game.
