The last match that I saw at todays (8/30) US Open was Todd Martin vs. Fabrice
Santoro.
Todd will always be one of the classiest guys ever to step foot on a tennis
court and will
always have great respect in the tennis world. Tonight, after his 4-6, 6-4, 6-4,
7-5, loss
to the #31 seed, Fabrice Santoro, Todd announced his retirement and the end to
his great
career. I was at that match which ended just a few hours ago at 11:00. (After
the match
Todd threw his wristband up into the crowd and I got it! I also got his
autograph too, HIS
LAST ONE!). I've read over this fan page for a long time now and I guess it's a
little too late
that I just joined now. Todd gave such an emotional speech and the few people
(100-200)
applauded after every point and at the end of his retirement speech. The whole
match I
was screaming. "C'MON TODD!" along with everyone else in the stadium. It seemed
destined to go to 5 sets after Martin broke Santoro in the 4th set to go up 5-3,
serving for
the set but Todd couldn't pull it out. I will never forget the great career of
tennis great and
legend, Todd Martin.
P.S. Do you think he'll get a special ceremony on Arthur Ashe like Chang got
last year? He
DEFINITELY deserves a ceremony...
