Oh your parents were clearly more "politically aware" than mine - got
all bases covered!!!!!! I think that my mother was just so desperate
to get me a name that she didn't think of the fall out...... my elder
sister was named after my mother's best friend and I don't know why
she got her middle name...... I think it was just because it sounded
nice - Louise is a very popular middle name ..........
but with me my poor mamma would suggest names and my father would
say "no I don't like that......." and finally my mother suggested
Alexandra and Dad said "Oh I don't mind that....." So it was a really
positive choice!!!!! But his father had Alexander as a middle name
and an old cousin was Alexandra and it occurs as a middle name in a
different side of my family so it wasn't entirely out of the
blue.......
I found all this out when I saw my birth certificate..... I couldn't
believe how long it took for me to be registered - it went right up
to the legal limit of 6 weeks if I remember rightly. Which means I
might have had my surgery before I got a name!!!!!! But it might not
be quite that bad.....I think my Mum said that they didn't get around
to registering me because of the worry over my health rather than
because it had taken so long to choose a name !!!!! But it
certainly took weeks. Our old neighbour said she had almost given
up asking.........and then she did ask if they had chosen and my
mother said "oh it's Alexandra Mary" as if it had been decided long
in advance!!!!!
I didn't like it when I was younger because it was so long and seemed
very old fashioned (it is much more popular now) but I like it now
partly because it is quite "international" - and it has the same
spelling in France which was nice when I lived there - they struggled
so much with my surname that to have a difficult first name too would
have been a nightmare. And they managed to turn Mary in to Marx on my
contract - my parents were far from COmmunist!!! I nearly died
laughing - but since I had waited 3 months for my contract (and so to
be paid :() I was dreading more delay.....thank goodness for tippex!
