     The first seminar in the Exceptionally Healthy Community Series
will be Jan. 12 at the Garden Terrace Room in the Pavilion, 1000

Damn, it has       sure been a while... I just realized today that it's been
12 months since I last went out with a special lady, but I am pretty happy to be
heading out tonight. I've had a bit of trouble finding any decent women lately

Yeah the Holly news sucks, it really bummed me out, I loved him being
a Cub, but then again maybe its better if he goes to a team that's
actually commited to winning. Don't even get me started on the Cubs
this year...yeesh. And can you imagine how hard it is to live in this
town when the southsiders just won the world series? Unbearable!

Anyways, I can't wait for baseball to srat up again and I really hope
Holly has a bang up year.

I didn't even hear about this news.
I was hoping he was going to be able to stay with the Cubs... he's
been moving around a whole lot in his career.

It's Lauren (ChewiesGurl), I have been having problems with that Yahoo
ID (I think someone stole my password or something), so, that's why I
haven't been in here... it was weird, I just had to join my own club
under another name.
But, hopefully the people with yahoo will be able to help me get my

  CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago Cubs traded outfielder Todd
Hollandsworth to the Atlanta Braves on Monday night for minor league
pitchers Todd Blackford and Angelo Burrows.

Hollandsworth will give the Braves a left-handed bat and a reserve
outfielder during the rest of the season. He is a career .299 pinch-
hitter.
"Holly gets a chance to go to one of the finer organizations in the
game, a contending club and a club he's performed well against,"
Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said. "John Schuerholtz and Bobby
Cox felt like as well as they are going, they could use a veteran
who can pinch hit off the bench, which Holly has done well."

Hollandsworth started in left field in the Cubs' 9-6 loss to Los
Angeles on Monday night and went 0-for-3 before he was removed. He
has a .254 batting average but is in a 9-for-54 slump over his last

That was my gripe when he played for the Dodgers, he never got much
playing time after his first few seasons... always sitting on the bench.

It is reaaally smart that he's wearing the shin guard, I think he has
had too many close calls with that!

He's been doing really well actually, he's still wearing his shin
guard which as well all know is a very good move. He's also adjjusting
very well to left field. It's great to see him almost ever game,
instead of waiting for him to come off the bench. I'm thrilled he's
still a Cub!

For anybody that missed it Holly came up big yesterday in the game
against the Brewers. Tied at 5 after 12 innings Todd came up to bat and
with Burnitz on 3rd and Lee on 1st Hollandsworth served up the game
winning RBI.

"....Todd Hollandsworth and he calmly delivered a game-winning RBI
single. Final: Cubs 6, Brewers 5.

"I am more nervous when the game starts than I am in that situation
right there," Hollandsworth said. "I don't know how or why God made me
that way, but for some reason I seem to relax and bear down and focus."

Also of note : "In the Chicago half of the sixth, Hollandsworth hit an
RBI single and pinch-hitter Neifi Perez made it 5-4 with a run-scoring
groundout. Hollandsworth then scored on Corey Patterson's infield
single to tie the game."

All in all Todd had a good game, hope he keeps it up!

Wow!  That's AWESOME news!  I'm glad he's able to stay with the
Cubs, it seems that over the past few years he has been moving
around a lot and being injured a lot... hopefully he'll get a good
season in!

I really can't wait for Spring Training...  I'm just itching for
that early morning baseball!  (at least here on the west coast it's
early!)

Just heard on WGN that Holly was signed to a 1 year, $900,000 deal
with the Cubs and because Moises Alous is heading to the Giants

Christmas Eve, he got a call from his agent. It seemed an odd time
to call, but it turned out to be one of his best Christmas presents.
The Cubs and Hollandsworth agreed to a one-year, $900,000 contract
for 2005, which was announced on Monday. There are incentives that
could boost his base to $1.2 million. Hollandsworth had been
eligible for salary arbitration.

"Everyone who saw Todd play knew he was a tremendous asset to the
club," Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said.

Hollandsworth was a key part of the Cubs last season, and started 26
games in right when Sammy Sosa was injured. But Hollandsworth missed
the last three months because of a severe leg injury. In 57 games,
he batted .318 with six doubles, two triples, eight homers and 22
RBIs.

Hollandsworth fouled a ball off his right shin on June 27 and did
not return to action the rest of the season. He not only had a
bruised shin, but suffered a stress fracture as well. He was missed.

are not expected to offer the left fielder arbitration on Tuesday.
One option to replace Alou is Todd Hollandsworth, also a free agent,
and the Cubs could offer him arbitration to keep the lines of
communication open. The same is true of catcher Paul Bako.

Hollandsworth batted .318 in 57 games before suffering a stress
fracture in his right leg. He is running now and said his leg
is "100 percent healed."

Back when he was in LA he had his hair buzzed a lot.  I used to have
so many pictures of him too... They were all on a zip disk, and our
zip drive died... so, there go all the pictures!

I know what you mean... since he left LA, it has been hard to get a
lot of news on him, I get news alerts, but a lot of times I don't
have the time to read them!  So, having a "Chicago Source" (hehe)

NOT IN TIME

He might have been ready if the Cubs had made the World Series. Todd
Hollandsworth, who could have received some votes for team MVP two months ago,
said his fractured leg is improving nicely.

"I'm almost ready to come back, maybe two weeks away," he said. "My leg is
already growing calcium-wise. Mentally, I'm ready to grind out 190 games next
year."

Hollandsworth is not signed for next season but wants to come back.

Thanks Chewiesgirl for making me a moderator, I'm honored and I'll try to keep
supplying any Todd news when I find it. I'm really bummed he didn't get to come
back for at least one more game this season. It seemed like every player I
really loved went down this year and went down hard. From Holly to Gonzo, if
some had happened to Michael Barrett I was going to start to think I was part of
the goat curse, lol.

I guess all we can do is set out sights on 2005...

This is nothing major and I can't find the article to corroborate it
but according to the Cubs board, rumor has it that Holly has cut his
hair. Just thought some of you would like to know. From what I've
heard its pretty short, kinda buzzed like Farnsy. It's a shame, I
loved his flowing hair!

And Chewies Girl I would love to be a moderator of this group. I
just hope that Holly stays in Chicago with the Cubs because it will
definately make news about him easier to come by. So if he re-signs
I'll do my best to keep info about him coming. :)  Thank you so much
for considering me.

i am a new member of this fan club, although i've been a fan for
quite a while. i was on tv earlier this year with 3 friends at a cub
home game in the bleachers and held a sign saying hollandsworth fan
club. if you remember this, let me know

When Sammy Sosa is in a slump, when Moises Alou looks fatigued by
making mental mistakes, it sure would be nice to have Todd
Hollandsworth to fill in for a few days.

Well, the good news is Hollandsworth took batting practice Monday
night. The bad news is his right leg isn't ready yet to return to
playing duties or even less pinch-hitting chores.

"It feels better every day, but it's not ready to be run on yet,"
Hollandsworth said. "I can hit, but I also have to be able to run."

Before a foul ball caused nerve damage and a hairline fracture in
his shin at the end of June, Hollandsworth hit .316 with eight
homers and 22 RBIs. He could have been considered the Cubs' MVP
while he filled in for an injured Sosa. These days he simply hopes
to be able to play sometime before the end of the season.

"I either need to play in a swimming pool or have a ghost guy stand
next to me in the batter's box so he can run to first,"
Hollandsworth said.

Hollandsworth would be valuable in September to give tired players a
day or two off.

CHICAGO -- Todd Hollandsworth's right leg is back in a cast and
immobilized, but Chicago Cubs manager Dusty Baker is optimistic the
outfielder will still be able to play this season.
Hollandsworth has been sidelined since fouling a ball off his right
leg June 27. He suffered a small stress fracture and some nerve
damage in his leg and had predicted he'd be back by Sept. 1. He got
the cast off Monday after wearing it for two weeks and had hoped to
begin running this weekend.

"They put him back in a cast," Cubs manager Dusty Baker said
Friday. "He was showing similar pains. He's hoping now by Sept. 6.
That's the deadline when his cast is scheduled to come off."

"It's probably going to be another week to 10 days of immobilizing
it," Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said. "Todd and the doctors
feel there's a shot that it could heal quickly. It's getting to be
hard to decipher how to heal a stress fracture with the nerve
problems he's had."

Hollandsworth has been able to throw and hit, he just can't run
because of the pain in his leg.

"If he comes back Sept. 6, he has a month to get ready, almost a
month," Baker said. "He and [coaches Gene Clines and Gary Matthews]
have a routine and a regimen to get him ready. The one problem is
that there won't be any minor league games to get him game-ready."

The minor league regular season ends Sept. 6.

Hollandsworth was batting .318 with eight home runs and 22 RBIs in
57 games when injured, and was 9-for-16 off the bench with two pinch-
hit home runs.

"We miss him a lot," Baker said. "This guy did a great job for us.
Not to slight the players who are here, but a guy with that kind of
pop in his bat, the days when you rest [Moises Alou] and Sammy
[Sosa], you really wouldn't lose much production."

Could the Cubs still add a bat?

"You get to this point of the year and you can't be optimistic about
adding people," Hendry said. "I think we'd all agree that our
offense has been pretty good lately. You always want extra
reinforcements in September, but I certainly don't know if there's a
Todd Hollandsworth out there that you could get if you wanted to."

CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs outfielder Todd Hollandsworth is not making
enough progress and will be shut down for at least 10 days in an
attempt to give his right leg time to heal.
Hollandsworth had an MRI on Tuesday, his third since June 27 when he
injured his leg by fouling a ball off his right shin.

The latest MRI showed inflammation around the bone and some
irritation in the nerve, Cubs trainer Dave Groeschner said on
Tuesday. Groeschner said they are comparing the test results with
the X-rays from 2001, when he suffered a season-ending injury on May
11 to his right leg.

"There's some similar findings, so obviously, there's concern that
we might be getting into a repeat of that situation," Groeschner
said.

In 2001, Hollandsworth fouled a ball off his right leg and fractured
his shin and crushed a nerve. He appeared in 33 games that year with
the Colorado Rockies.

Could Hollandsworth be done for the season?

"I don't think we're to that point now," Groeschner said. "We're
going to step back and immobilize him for 10 days to two weeks and
see if we can get this thing to calm down. At this point, we're
running in circles. He feels better, we have him do activity and he
develops discomfort. You rest him and he feels better."

The Cubs miss Hollandsworth's bat off the bench. He was hitting .318
overall and 9-for-16 off the bench.

"He's mentally frustrated," Groeschner said of Hollandsworth. "He
wants to play. He's here. He wants to contribute and, being here
every day, he's upset he can't help us out. He feels he's getting
better and then he takes a step backward. He's been unbelievably
great about it."

However, Hollandsworth is running out of time this season. There are
eight weeks remaining.

"If, in two weeks, he's feeling really good, we'll start the
activity back," Groeschner said. "I think if we can get all the
discomfort out of his leg, he'll come back to baseball quickly. He
is able to do a lot of things, but he can't do the baseball-related
things for a prolonged time. I can have him go hit, and he's fine.
If I have him hit day after day, it bothers him."

The matter is complicated because both Hollandsworth's shin and the
nerve are sore.

"Some days, it's both, and one day, it's one and not the other,"
Groeschner said. "It's been a back and forth thing."

That's great news!  It's truly a sweet story about how Todd and
Marci met... I heard a lot about it when he was on the Dodgers.  I'm
sure the Cubs guys have told the story... how Marci is Matt Herges'
younger sister.  They were warming up in the outfield at Dodger
Stadium, talking about how they were hating being single, and Matt
turned to Todd and said, "Have you ever met my sister?", Holly in
turn said, "Didn't even know you had one."  Todd and Marci met on a
road trip the Dodgers took to St. Louis in May, and I believe
married in December (the story was told every time Holly came back
to town when Herges was on the Dodgers...

To answer your question, their first child was a boy, his name is Ty
Adam, if I remember correctly.

Congrats to them!  And lucky he was there when the time came!

According to Chip and Steve on FSN, the baby was born at 7:08 this
morning, it was a boy, 7 lbs 8 ounces (if I remember correctly) and
they named him (get ready for this one...) Tug. :)

So congrats to Todd and Marci...btw does anyone know if his first
child was a boy or a girl?

Good timing: Todd Hollandsworth has been commuting to Chicago from
Milwaukee to be with his wife Marci, who is expecting the couple's
second child. It's a good thing he was home Wednesday.

"He was coming up today and his wife's water broke," Baker
said. "It's a blessing in disguise that he was there. He took her
right to the hospital."

Prior to Wednesday's game, the Cubs had not received any word on how
the Hollandsworths were doing.
