Agrees to 2-Year Deal <br><br><br>DENVER (AP) -
Outfielder Todd Hollandsworth and the Colorado Rockies
agreed Tuesday to a $5.5 million, two-year
contract.<br><br>Hollandsworth, acquired July 31 from Los Angeles, batted .323
with 11 home runs and 23 RBI in 167 at-bats with
Colorado.<br><br>He gets a $500,000 signing bonus and $2.5 million in
each of the next two seasons, plus the chance to earn
$500,000 a year more in performance
bonuses.<br><br>Hollandsworth would earn $20,000 each for 100, 110, 120, 130
and 140 games, and $100,000 each for 350, 425, 500
and 575 plate appearances.<br><br>The Rockies had a
number of other players on their wish list and planned
to enter talks for Chicago Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa
if he is not re-signed. The team has already talked
with outfielder Johnny Damon of the Kansas City
Royals.<br><br>Others the Rockies were expected to court were
outfielder Ellis Burks, coming off two consecutive 96-RBI
seasons with San Francisco, Seattle shortstop Alex
Rodriguez and right-handed Los Angeles pitcher Darren
Dreifort.<br><br>Colorado is looking for a right-handed-hitting corner
outfielder who could take the place of Jeffrey Hammonds, who
filed for free agency last week.<br><br>The Rockies and
Hammonds' agent, Jeff Moorad, agreed to discuss a
three-year deal to bring the outfielder back, but the two
sides were strongly divided on the financial package.
