It is with deep regret that I must inform you that one of our dearest
friends and a Hall of Fame inductee Chief Thunder Cloud passed away on
the 15th of April 2007 from esophagus Cancer. Doug was one of the
legends of our sport. I will be endeavering to put in our IKTHOF web
site a bio written by Errett Callahan named 'The Passing Of A Legend".
We shall miss him at our banquets and he was one of the four legends of
our sport.I have pictures of the four of them that will become part of
our tribute. Che Che White Cloud, Bob " The Master of the Blade" Carp,
Dick Haines and never to be forgotten Doug "Chief Thunder Cloud"
Waldorf. A tribute to Doug will also be held at the Annual Hall of Fame
dinner on October 7th 2007. In addition a memorial plaque will be made
and placed in our Hall of Fame in his honor. Rest in peace Chief
Thunder Cloud we will miss you. Alamo

I had been pass and around the Alamo many times but until Che Che White
Cloud and his wife Nancy and Little John and myself went there I really was not
sure what to expect but it was a very strange and different feeling than I
have had at any other battle site!
It was eerie as well as very moving to be standing on such hallowed ground
where people made a choice to stay and fight for what they believed in
rather than run away which they had the choice to do.
It almost felt as if the ghosts of those brave souls were measuring your
worthiness to be standing where they stood, I can't find another way to
describe it?
Living right next to Valley Forge where there is a lot of history and
having visited Gettysburg and Shiloh and a few other places where brave men and
women lost their lives in the pursuit of freedom I have still never felt
something otherworldly touch me the way the Alamo did, I don't have an
explanation
for it but that is what I felt!
To be associated with such a historic endeavor is an honor few people
will ever get the chance to know and to have great friends with you makes it
all
the better!
                                                                         Joe

been close to the alamo 100 times and lived in new braunfels on the lori lane .
never could get to the alamo . would be a trip to throw there. with my income i
would'nt be able to go. good luck on the day. being originally from tenn. and
growing up in south arkansas not too far from washington and having hung out
there some. i always felt a kinship to those who died defending her.
unfortuneately theres always cannon fodder in every war. a fact not too many
people realize . tom

I would like to update you on our tentative throw at the Alamo
on October 6th 2007. My thoughts at this point are that we will have
invitations to 20 to 25 top throwers throughout the US and Europe who
will pay a registration fee of $100.00 to throw in this historic
event. I am also actively contacting sponsors to make the trophies
for the winners of this event as well as having a knife made for the
Alamo museum commemorating the event. With that in mind the IKTHOF
should be able to donate at least $2000.00 to the Alamo as well as
the commemorative knife. With your approval we will arrive at the
Alamo at 6:a.m. the morning of the 6th of October with the throwers
all dressed in period attire. Three throwing blocks will be placed in
the designated area. One of the bocks will be utilized for the
competition and the other two used in demonstrations for the public
on both knife and Tomahawk throwing. We will provide commentators
dressed in period attire for introducing each thrower as he competes
as well as interviews with throwers and people designated by you to
be interviewed ( tourists, Alamo staff etc. ).
At 9 a.m. five or six throwers will compete in the first heat
throwing a total of five games. This should take until 10:00 to 10:15
at that point demonstrations will take place on the two other
throwing blocks by experienced throwers talking about the history of
knife throwing as it pertains to the gallant men that fought and died
there for the courage of their convictions. This process will be
repeated at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. after the last
throwers have competed the five games all throwers will be lined up
introduced to the crowd by our commentators and the First. Second and
Third place winners will receive their trophies. All contestants will
receive a certificate of participation from the IKTHOF. In addition I
have the original pictures of the posters I brought to you at our
last meeting on disc, that if they so choose I will give to the gift
shop at the Alamo so that additional revenue can be obtained by
selling them to the tourists that visit the Alamo that day. Throwers
will be available to sign these posters during the day of the throw
should that be deemed a viable idea for the gift shop to participate
in.

Great job Alamo - we're proud of you! Now you can retire and be a score
keeper!!!!!!!
HaHaHa - I'm NOT joking :)

I'll call you this afternoon or early evening. I've got a few problems
on the park (this is normal chaos), must must get the wording into the
trophy guy today or tomorrow at latest, and I've got a new maintenance
guy starting this morning.

By the way the trophies will be really nice I think. 9 for knives, 3 for
hawks, and 3 for whips.

Dr. Michael J. Bainton of Austin, Texas, owner and operator of South

Book of World Records as the most prolific Knife and Tomahawk thrower
in history for a World Record of most first place wins, a total of 38
from April of 2003 to April of 2007 in regional and world
championship knife and tomahawk certified events. Bainton won World
Championships in knife and Tomahawk Throwing at the Wild West Arts
Club Knife and Tomahawk Throwing World Championships in Las Vegas
Nevada in 2003 and 2004, and in 2005 at the Will Rogers WWAC World

Thanks Dalmo for the compliment. And thank you Christian for the review. I set
out to make a competition throwing knife that would have some of the best
features of other guys designs and a few of my own of course. For the most part
I think I accomplished that in the Ziel knife. There are a few flaws that need
to be taken care of and we're expecting a couple of the prototypes to be
delivered in the next week or two.

I was happy to see at the Wild West Arts Club convention, probably 20 or 30
Ziel's flying around. And I didn't hear any complaints, other than the blades
were way too sharp, which I agree and hope to have remedied in the next batch.

Last year I won the QuickDraw knife throwing with my old custom Tru-Bal
Bowie-Axe that Harry Mc'Evoy made especially for me about 30 years ago. It has
always been my favorite QuickDraw knife, especially after I matched it up to a
custom alligator crossed-draw sheath just for that purpose. I've always been
pretty confident with it but this time I took a chance to see if I could
showcase the new Ziel knife.

While at the Shots Show in Orlando I met Mr. Scott Evans director of operations
of, Edge-Work Manufacturing; who specialize in making tactical holsters. After
some discussion and basic design compromises we came up with the tactical speed
rig that I used this year. I was really worried but I also had a lot of
confidence in the finished product.

You can contact Mr. Evans via his e-mail Scott@... or by
telephone at, 910-455-9834 and ask for the QuickDraw knife sheath system that
John Bailey used. You can go to their website and see the other products they
have at,
http://www.tacticalholsters.com/profile.htm

The sheath can be removed by a press of the button from one of three basic belt
attachments. The Paddle, style slips inside your belt (this is the one I like
best). There is also a version that laces on your belt like a regular holster,
or the Drop loop. The one thing I like most about the system is that you can
rotate the sheath in any direction you want. I set mine up in a cross draw
configuration which I think works best.

No doubt all this information is going to get me beat next year at the WWAC,
but... what the who... no one stays on the top of the pile forever.

If any of you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Hi, Chris

This time looks like John really Exceeded himself, the knife looks marvellous,
Modern and functional at once. I'm sure it performs Very well.

If I had one I would (with pain in my hearth) Blunt its edge to throw it by the
blade, also, cause it looks a fine knife that could be thrown well from both
sides.

Congratulations, John, for the new "baby", and let me greet you, Chris, both for
the great report and for your Birthday!

Tom... You have nothing to fear as to the penetration value of the Ziel knife,
just ask Joe. I watched him when he was throwing with Mike Crain and those 10
bullseyes he threw with the Ziel into the trees rounds went in about 2 inches.

If I had one I would (with pain in my hearth) Blunt its edge to throw it by the
blade, also, cause it looks a fine knife that could be thrown well from both
sides.

Congratulations, John, for the new "baby", and let me greet you, Chris, both for
the great report and for your Birthday!

wish i was good at making sheaths that work it's an art for sure. harry was a
good ol guy as was pete lagana otter was someone you could ride th river with.
my old tru-balence bowie ax was stolen years ago. it was stolen along with a
viet hawk by pete , a bayonet converted to throwing use .that ziel throwing
knife's very unique it'll do what it says i'm positive it will. hows the
penetration at distance . will it penetrate good heavy cardboard. will have to
buy one one of these days when my knives move a bit better. i suppose my
question is would it be good for pig hunting if so there'd be a major market for
them i bet. tom

Hi Dalmo
John had a set of his knives waiting for me as he promised but my custom
Damascus throwers showed up from Idaho the second day I was there so I threw
them and john needed the set back to sell as there seemed to be a lot of demand
for them.
John introduced me to a friend of his by the name of John Crain who holds
the world record for breaking ice blocks (14 feet of them) and he also does a
show with Blow Guns and Shuriken/Shaken (Depending on you definition)
throwing stars so I went over and threw with Mr Crain a bit and it was the firt
time I got the chance to throw John's new Ziel Thrower and I threw 10 bulls
eye's in a row with them my first 10 throws so I can vouch for the fact that
they
throw pretty nice.
Then it cam down to John and I in the quick draw and John whooped me fair
and square, he keeps saying he's going to quit but manages to keep winning
championships, I believe he also took first in the Speed & Accuracy event with
the bull whips and also placed pretty well in the Gun Quick Draw if memory
serves.
Anyway as you say Dalmo they are a bit sharp and square for my tastes but
throw very well!

Crispyyyyyyyyyy,

It was great meeting you finally! I hope you can make it to Austin, you
won't even believe the time you'll have there!! Think Claremore but
going on damned near 24/7 for 4-5 days with knives, hawks, whips, and
crazy guys inventing new stuff to scare each other into being better
throwers. It's beyond words...

Be well and keep practicing you've got the skills my friend,

Yes dave they work really good thank you for fixing them up and selling
them to me.I have never scored in the nineties before so i am very glad
i got them from you. I might even start to practice with them between
throws although i still have a hard time getting them out when i can
throw knives. I probably can manage thirty minutes a day becouse when
Ed breaks a hundred I want to be along for the ride. Alamo
