The other night, I flipped over to CSN to see if ther was any relocation news,
but the Orioles' game hadn't finished yet. I would have turned it off (as I
usually do), but Jim Palmer was talking about how MLB might placate Angelos now
that Washington, DC's return to Major League Baseball looks inevitable.

He made an interesting suggestion. He suggested that the Orioles ask to be
realigned into the NL with the Senators taking their place in the AL East.
Palmer's theory was that the Orioles can't keep up with the Yankees and Red Sox,
they would be more competitive in the NL East, while the relocated Senators (nee
Expos) probably would be less competitive in the AL East. (He's forgetting how
much money there is in DC -- it's a big market like New York and Boston.) That
would help keep the in-between fans going to Baltimore, or many of them at any
rate, and partially placate Angelos.

Baltimore does have a winning tradition in the National League in the 19th
century, for what that's worth.

What does anyone think of Palmer's idea?

Tim
